I have no idea what the fuck someone is doing that could possibly take up 200GB of data.
I upload/download massive video files to clients, watch streaming Netflix, listen to internet radio all day -- and I still could never even come close to a quarter of that each month. If you use more, pay more. It's simple business. What the fuck?

I knew this wouldn't fly.
If they were going ahead with it anyway I'd hazard a guess that that e-petition thing would go Canada-wide and be in the millions of signatures faster than Harper could say "Shit, let's rethink this one". I'm with Shaw Cable and have been with them since day 1 of my online business ventures. Bell or whomever it is pushing for this can go suck an egg.

I don't pay a high set-price electric bill because the Walmart uses 1000 times more electricity than me -- they pay what they use, and I pay what I use. This concept is escaping all of the folks that think everything should be low-cost/free, regardless of how much they consume. I don't know where this mindset has come from actually, its a new thing that's come up with the current generation of kids that think they're entitled to everything for nothing. Sounds like a "get off my lawn" speech, but it's true. Tell people they can't download music for free, then they're oppressed by the man. Tell people they have to pay more for the internet they use, then they're oppressed. I don't want to be on the side of a big corporation, but as a businessman myself, I would be pissed if someone was sucking up more of my services and paying the same price as low-level consumers.

I get 65gb a month for downloading, and I pay for that. If I use more, they will warn me and either A: Allow me to increase and pay an extra $10 a month or whatever, or B: make me pay per GB overage. They are now proposing that everyone gets a 25gb cap regardless of what you pay, they won't make you pay less, just more if you go over your 25gb. Pretty retarded, especially because the difference in price will now be only for how fast you want your internet speeds to be. Think owning a Bugatti but only ever driving it in a 30MPH zone all your life. All that speed but capped at 25gb for downloads. Then any overage is $2.25 per GB. It won't happen tho, in less than a week there has been over 350,000 signatures to the petition in Ontario only. If this was to roll out Canada wide it would be millions of signatures. |

You run a business to make money. No doubt. You also have the responsibility to continuously improve your business with the money you are generating. With competition, this usually isn't an issue. When a company has a monopoly, suddenly it becomes an issue because that business is not fighting with other businesses. Utility companies remind me of the government... always wanting more and more money to improve, which they rarely seem to do, instead of cutting back on waste and using the money they already have.

Canada's just being upfront about it. Here in the philippines it has been an old complaint that the telcos have caps in place, they just don't tell anyone.
