First Egypt, now Iran. Think they have a chance?

Or is this all going to end in tears like 2009 for them?

Anti-government protests spread through Middle East
Inspired by demonstrations in Tunisia and Egypt, protesters are taking to the streets in Bahrain, Iran and Yemen.

TEHRAN - Violent protests erupted in Iran, Yemen and Bahrain on Monday as the revolutionary fervor unleashed by the toppling of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak rippled across the Middle East, propelling people onto the streets to demand change from a spectrum of autocratic regimes.

Bahrain hasn't succeeded yet. Iran definitely will not.

The Revolutionary guard support the government. They will fire on the public.

It's only a matter of time... These people are pissed. And they are pissed at their own governments.

Iran will probably just "go China" on them, i.e., shoot first and ask questions later (and say "who cares" to the outraged international community)

The Greens will unfortunately find that they must be willing to die for what they believe in.

Freedom can have a bitter price at times. Is the dream of freedom worth your life or is it better to live as a slave? That is the difference between a *protester* and a freedom fighter ? conviction.

Not quite. They were inventing algebra, charting the heavens, etc. when your ancestors were still eating their boogers.

I'm all for the muslim revolution.
you don't have to worry so much about collateral damage when the offending government was voted into power.

Nope, Iran won't succeed, at least not yet. The protest movement there has to get WAY stronger and more organized in order to topple the government.

The government would prefer to mow down 10,000 civilians with machine guns, while giving the international community the middle finger, before they'll relinquish power.

With a bit of luck these "Democracy" protesters will do the same as the "Democracy" protesters in Egypt...overthrow the democratically elected government, get a military regime to take control, that will cancel the elections and give a promise to hold some election in the future, but dont know when, tear up the constitution, ban any more protests, and some obscure promise about reform in some unknown time. Yep, you got to hand it to those democracy protesters in Egypt, they really got a good deal for the Egyptian people.

I for one hope this takes over the middle east, even if Barry will somehow get credit. If the people start running things instead of the governments, then this world stands a chance and I will message the mother ship not to blow up this arm pit of the galaxy!

So, yeah. I was just commenting that there was a time when that region of the world was leading innovation and understanding, when most other parts of the world were mired in various forms of ignorance and stupidity.

iran's role in the next eastern world order of the china/russia/indian/south american axis will be what israel played in the middle east for the western world order.

they will be the last to fall but who knows, we live in a time of increasing novelty.
