I was looking at vBulletin earlier, i was thinking of swapping a SMF forum over. Is vBulletin hard to install then?

its all done via a 'step by step process' and none of the info required is complicated

It's really not. The installation is as simple as uploading the software, chmoding some files, possibly having your host adjust some php settings (possibly not even required), making a database/user, and then running the installer wherein you enter your database access credentials.

Converting from SMF might be a headache though, assuming you'll be transferring all posts/users.

The other thing is customization and skinning, but it's not that hard.
