Probably not for a while but it'll probably be coming. Things always happen it steps. Expect to see pressure from some front. Perhaps the government, maybe Google, or perhaps Visa or Mastercard. Maybe a rouge state or two first. This is the way it usually works. This just opened things up for it. Set the stage so to speak.

Why are you all so afraid?

They don't force mobile sites abandon .com's and go to .mobi ?

Or all the sites who have at least some useful information move to .info.. ?

I see no problems with this at all. If visa or MC don't want to process .com/net/org, well , you can easily move your paysites to .xxx, and still have all your tgps/tubes/other traffic sources on .com's ?

You've been around for a while. You should know what's likely to be coming such as COPA, 2257 ... the industry has traditionally been a target. Being able to separate and isolate is the first step to further actions. It may not happen this year or even the next but I'll bet you that it will be coming and certain parties will try.

nothing. i can't name a single tld that went anywhere beyond stealing peoples money with big promises when they roll out. ... mobi cm co asia..no one cared. lots of money will be dropped on the xxx auctions probably, a few sites might come out of it but i predict it being largely a failure and ignored.

I definitely think this could be the beginning of the end if we don?t act now. We should all stick together here (highly unlikely I agree) and boycott the XXX, Start some kind of adult entertainment foundation among ourselves. Keep in mind we are a multi billion dollar industry. Let Visa and MC refuse our other TLD sales if they choose, how long do you think that would last if there was no business from the XXX? Do you really think they would just walk away from the adult business?

True we are sure to feel the initial financial crunch without them but its better than just complying, because we all know where this is going. Besides, there are other means of transacting business.

We can solicit our members, maybe offer them a discount if they send checks or use Discover, solicit our performers, content providers and so on. Tell them all to support the boycott.

Bank of America has a personal account instant transfer service for our USA customers, anyone in USA can open an account on line and use that feature, USA webmasters can open personal accounts also. Maybe assist some of our foreign counterparts and visa versa. I?m not saying that we should rush into any of this just prepare ourselves for the worst and definitely begin the .XXX boycott

Okay I said my piece, just a tiny voice with little knowledge compared to many of you.
Any advice or opinions any of you can add?

Best case scenario: Hopefully google will look at .xxx the same as to .com etc, visa and mastercard will continue their business as usual so .xxx will be just the next flop like all those other useless extensions.

No matter what happens, the only one laughing will be Stuart, because all big sites will register their .xxx domain just in case at $60 per domain... how many sites are wel talking about??? at $60 per domain.... you do the math... :-(

ICANN should create another extension, .pirate
Then government would force all the torrent sites to this extension, google would ban it, and we would live happily ever after..

Not to be a pessimists, just a realist, but there is a 0.0% chance of that happening. Why? Look at the tube sites. When people saw that big tube sites were stealing content and getting large amounts of traffic posting that content on their sites did they band together and fight this? Nope. they joined in and created their own tube sites.

You're not a pessimist you're a realist and also correct, it would never happen.

Our company is a Dutch Corporation with datacenters in Amsterdam.

We aggressively utilize WIPO Domain name resolution arbitration to protect our trademarked names. I am not concerned about the potential cybersquatters nor our legal position in the Netherlands vis-à-vis .xxx ... Our direct business interests will not be subject to the implied "filtering" that .xxx may bring.

We tag our sites with ICRA and RTA. We are a responsible member of the "community" and have no wish to offend the prudes of this world or to expose children to our sexually explicit content.

I would like to believe that our affiliates also act as we do, responsibly. That said, I do realize the concern of our affiliates as to what their own governments may require of them with regard to the use of TLDs.

I hope that I am wrong but I see a POSSIBLE clear and present danger in this adoption of .xxx. We shall see in the next few years what the real affect will be.
