It's a personal preference thing that I also think is an acquired taste. I cant remember when I've last used IE as it does suck but I don't really like Chrome either. Firefox seems to be the preference for most and I too love it.

chrome was not cracked in the pwn2own contest as best I know. It is a bit of a resource hog on OSX where it uses more ram and firefox seems to use more cpu. I am currently using chrome after using firefox for a long time and liking it a lot. I still keep firefox for sites that work better on it tho...

Ok. I have a good heart, so I will make an effort and I will repeat myself.

Chrome = Big Brother in your browser

Iron = Chrome - Big Brother

http://www.srware.net/en/index.php

You can also build your own version without the Big Brother, it's not that hard.

http://www.chromium.org/

FireFox has a lot of great addons but new version are slow and buggy from the other hand old ones do not support CSS3 and HTML5.

I also recommend to check SeaMonkey and Opera...

Hehe Chrome = Big Brother and GFY = A Conspiracy Forum too.

You can shut the reporting back feature, that all major browsers have, then watch the connections to ensure they're off, and they are.

Oh yeah, I use Chrome almost always.... Only bitch about it, is it will crash and you will lose your profile/bookmarks, etc - and you'll have to lookup to see how to restore it, which can lose bookmarks/changes from the restore date. It has happened twice to me now.

I still use FF as well, but I load it up with all the plugins, so much of them it's bloated and slow but it has everything I need either way.

Yea, I know that everything can be switched off, that I can block unwanted connection with firewall etc but common! Chrome is ugly!

Also Iron is faster...

Chrome doesn't phone home with any data if you shut the check boxes off, then turn Google History off and you're set. Outside of normal download/upgrade usage info, that they all collect - but you can beat that in Chrome as well.

Edit: Auto Suggest is another tracker, but you don't need Chrome for that.

You don't have to firewall anything with Chrome to stop it from phoning home.... and very few browsers are faster than Chrome, for sure one as feature rich.

Here is the list of Chrome features that stripped Chromium (Iron) doesn't have.

Quote:
* RLZ identifier, an encoded string sent together with all queries to Google or once every 24 hours.
* Google search access on startup for users with Google as default search
* A unique ID ("clientID") for identifying the user in logs.
* A timestamp of when the browser was installed.
* Google-hosted error pages when a server is not present
* Google Updater automatic installation.
* DNS pre-fetching, because it could perhaps be used by spammers.
* Automatic address bar search suggestions.
* Bug tracking system, sends information about crashes or errors.

That's true about the speed, but it also depends on a browser config, default ones are very often overloaded with unnecessary stuff, a lot of can be tuned...

keeping 30(+) tabs go with firefox, but if you're into single tab browsing go with iron chrome.

browsing 30(+) tabs on chrome is a headache, tabs too small to select, most of the time i accidentally clicked the close tab.

The new version of FF is a lot faster than the old one. Starts up a lot quicker, pages load quicker. It's been pretty stable, I haven't noticed any issues at all.

u should try new version of ff,

previously process requred to run flash movies was included in firefox thats why when movie craashes ff crashes., but in new versions., they have created separate process called plugin-container just for flash movies playing or some other plugins also.
so this way browser keeps working and just flash movies wont play.

Chrome is spying on you (so Google knows your geographical location with precision of 10 meters). FireFox does the same, but it can be disabled in "about:config". Chrome does not allow you do disable it.

Go to http://maps.google.com/ and click "Show my location" icon there.

See what I'm talking about?

Nope it doesn't. The request with your location coordinates is sent to Google BEFORE you get prompted. Here is how it works. First of all, the browser receives your coordinates from near wifi routers. After that it sends the coordinates along with your IP to Google to receive your address.

When some application, say maps.google.com, asks you to allow your location info to be transferred, the browser ALREADY know your address because it already got it from Google (via https://www.google.com/loc/json), so it's not hard to guess that Google already knows it to

There is an easy way on how to get rid of it in FF and even fake your location (I can make maps.google.com to detect my location as White House ) but you can't do it with Chrome

When some application, say maps.google.com, asks you to allow your location info to be transferred, the browser ALREADY know your address because it already got it from Google (via https://www.google.com/loc/json), so it's not hard to guess that Google already knows it to

It's not your Wifi that does that, it's the product/machine/software behind it... like the iphone has built in GPS, the location info is passed to Google Maps. While my iTouch doesn't, and Gmaps still thinks I'm in San Fran, which I haven't visited in almost a year.

For Chrome.... you have to 'allow' the extension to be installed, it's not automatic.

"Google Chrome never shares your location without your permission"

What everyone is suggesting in this thread would be the largest privacy violation in the world and violate 90% of the Countries privacy laws, if they even did .1% of what was suggested in this thread.

Edit: Devices with no GPS, if you walk through an area with lots of public wifi's and you try to connect, several wifi's with locations being broadcast through them, will help a non GPS device find its location. The more wifi's around you, the better it will pin point you.
