Anyone using a mechanical keyboard?

My old keyboard was too big and bulky for my desk (original Logitech G15). I wanted to switch to a mechanical keyboard rather than the rubber bubble keyboards almost everyone uses these days.

I ordered a Razer Blackwidow from Amazon. This thing is fucking great. I can't imagine all programmers or writers not using these. When did we start using those cheap, spongy-feeling keyboards? I remember the old clicky, heavy IBM keyboards that everyone had back in the day. Why did we stop using those? Sure, they're a little louder but the rhythmic clicking is almost music to me.

I just ordered a Das Keyboard (also mechanical) for the office. Anyone else rocking a mechanical keyboard?

i'm in the market for a new keyboard too. The left arrow key on my g15 just broke the little plastic holders that keep it in. I suppose for the amount i type this keyboard doesn't owe me much more anyways

I use an old Dell keyboard that reminds me of the IBM keyboards I used in the 80's when I was a mainframe COBOL programmer... it's great.

I loved the old clicky keyboards from the late 80's era! Somewhere I have at least a couple of em. Typing sounds so much more impressive, lol.

That's it right there. Before I was just tapping around on a keyboard. Now I am FUCKING TYPING. Honestly I think this thing has improved my speed. The first couple of days I was making a lot of mistakes but that's cool because even the backspace key clicks with authority.

You strike me as the kind of guy that needs a Das Keyboard Ultimate.

You'd be pimp with blank clicky keys.

I use the apple wireless, and you'd have to pull it out of my dead hands to separate me from it.

wireless logitech keyboard, certainly. I have a backup rubber button keyboard and it's painful to use, but it's only there for when synergy craps out.

Line numbers? What were you coding before? BASIC?

10 PRINT "I RULE"
20 PRINT CHR$(7)
30 GOTO 10

I had to look up what a mechanical keyboard was...

I don't have a problem using my microsoft natural keyboard, have been using it for years without a problem ever. Loud clicking noises?? yeah that would be great if you are working in an office full of people.. hehe I hate my laptop keyboard, but that is a different story.

I bought a second hand PS/2 computer, and the keyboard was SUPER noisy. Every keypress (and release) produced a click or clack sound, plus there was like a remnant echo as well. Used to drive my girlfriend of the time nuts because I was usually at my programming best at 2am or some similarly weird hour. Ditched the comp years ago... should have kept the k/b. :D

When I bought this microsoft keyboard I found that apart from the keys getting softer (compared to the older white one), they'd shifted slightly. Took me a while to get used to it. Had some problems with passwords for a few days.

I use the one that came with my desktop. I notice no 'fatigue' when having to press the keys on my bubble-style keyboard. I guess that 'fatigue' only applies to people where 2mm pressing distance actually changes their day.

When I type I hit my keys nice and hard, it's jsut the way I have always typed and I am happy with it.

I also type with my index and middle fingers of both hands and can do 60-80 words per minute.
