I was working construction on a high rise building and I think the top floor was 18 stories or so. My crew was working on the roof and we were doing some masonry work. We had a metal trash bin that was about 5' high on the sides, not quite big enough to put a VW bug in and it was open on one end so you could push a wheel barrow in to dump trash.

So it needed to be taken off the roof and put on the ground because it was no longer needed. To do that we used a crane and hooked up to it with three cables and flew it off the roof.

Now the crane operator won't get out of his cab to unhook the cables once it is on the ground so the foreman has to send one of our crew down from the roof to un hook the cables. I was going to go down the stairs to do it and the foreman tells me to just sit inside the bin and ride it down so I won't have to walk all those stairs. I look at him like he's crazy but he assures me it will be ok and so does everyone else on the crew so I climb in and sit in the back opposite the open end. I'm not tied to anything but I can hold on to the edges.

The crane begins to lift me up slowly and the bin begins to spin slowly and then it hits me I might have made a bad decision. The crane has to lift me up above the roof before he swings around to clear the building so now I'm well over 20 stories above the ground.

Unfortunately for me, my foreman didn't tell the crane operator that I was riding in the bin so he had no idea that there was a person in there. So the crane operator swings me over to where he wants the bin to land and lets the cable release and I FREE FALL about 18 stories before he hits the brakes and I come in for a gentle landing. Once I was on the ground I stood up facing the crane operator and his eyes about popped out of his head.

Nobody got fired but we did have a big job site meeting over what had happened.

grabbed the fin of a whale shark and got pulled for over 200m away from the boat.. with only a mask and a tuba... the guide and my gf were totally freaking out.

we were like at 200km of the shores , right in middle of the mexican gulf.

Clearly this was a fail post. I can also mention my skydives, deep diving with gear and without, etc. etc - but I have a feeling that most GFYers haven't done anything than being keyboard warriors.

If someone told me to do that, I'd probably try to throw him off of the roof, head first.
