Bin Laden - does it matter?
In truth does it matter if he is dead or not?
The news claims he was no longer in charge. Several options could be: 1. He was shot as they claim. 2. He was already dead. 3. He is still alive. So what? However, I suspect it was real. And if it was, were they ordered to sahoot him or try to take him alive. In truth shooting him may have been easer as what would they do if they took him alive? If they had put him on trial and excecuted him he would have been a martor. But he they had not excucuted him people in the USA would I suspect been angy. Its probably a bigger deal in the USA than out ogf the USA. In the UK there was 'disgust' not at him being killed but those dancing around in joy. It has gone against the UK belife in justice rather than the USA gun slinging, shoot them first attetude. However I suspect using the army as they did rather than bomb the place while more risky was far better. If inicent people had been killed it would have been a terrible public relations disaster. The quewstion is were his wife(s) and children killed too. But will history see him as a villan or hero? Bin Laden belived the west should not be involved in being in his countries. So for many he will be a hero. Its a bit like vietnam, who were the villans? After all we condem Hitler. But Hitler quotes the USA in getting rid of the Jews. For only 20 years before Hitler was born the USA did the same to the native Indians. And Hitler states he only did what the USA did. History and who rights it is an odd old thing. After all you could say the USA never did become one. And the split between the Noth (liberal) and South (Smasll goverment and freemarket) still remains.

What it does do is give many in the USA a postive feel.
A bit like the silly royal wedding in the UK. Timed to give people a good feeling when things are not too great. In that sence its not a bad thing. Thats why to me it does not matter if its real or not. More important it boosted peoples happiness in a bad time.

Sure it matters. Eye for an eye. This lets all potential future terrorists know if that you hurt the US bad enough, we will hunt you down and kill you. Plain and simple.

What say if some US Indians desided to do terrist activities. Do they have the right. An eye for an eye. Do they have the right to kill in revenge for the sistamatic killings of US Indians?

If anyone would blow up the WTC because of what happened in Lebanon (the whole of Beirut was destroyed, not just a couple of "towers") it would have been Islamic Jihad, who kicked the US out of the country by blowing up the Marine barracks in 1983. If Osama was so upset about Lebanon he'd have been there fighting against Israel, which had already invaded the country before the Soviets invaded Afghanistan. |

It's a victory for the whole world.
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1993321/posts I think it's a little odd that people ignore the countless Islamic terrorist attacks well before 9/11 around the globe. When any leader of an Al-Qaeda organization is murdered it's a good thing, for everyone. It doesn't matter what they stand for, they kill and murder thousands of innocent people.

I think threads like this point to a real dilemma people have. They don't understand that there are two worlds. The one we all aspire to, the one we dream about. And the one we actually live in, with all the messy intricacies and complex interrelationships where solutions aren't always black and white and you often choose the lesser of two evils while trying to stay true to your own morals and ethics.
In the world we aspire to, this killing was not really reason for joy. But in the real world, the one we live in now, this was a success. This was tangible justice that people can understand on a very basic level. As for people dancing in the streets. Most of those people were very young, 20 or so. For them, 9/11 was their first taste of the "real world" and their first realization that a "bad guy" is out there. That's why they danced in the streets. For younger people I think 9/11 was actually a bigger deal than for older people and that's whey they reacted the way they did to this news. It was a wrong from their childhood that had been righted and as I'm sure you understand, sometimes those feelings can have the most impact. I'm not sure if the people around the world criticizing the crowds realize that.
