How Many Of You Guys Buy Blu Ray Movies

I have over 250 so far but I will be giving the away as prizes in my next WCG contests. Most are brand new other than being watched once, most of them still have the digital copy code unused.

This is the channel I'm going to use for this. I should have a camera by the end of June to start doing these. I also have about 75 PS3/360 games I will be giving out.
https://youtube.com/user/endthedisease

I notice on youtube that a lot of people buy them. Some people have massive collections. I want to find out how many of you buy them and why.

A lot of the titles I get I would normally not buy but if they have tons of extra stuff like 50 minutes of interviews I will pick it up if it's something I'm into.

The problem is most of these are special editions with two or more blu rays and will often be over $30 new. Most of these second disks are not available at redbox or on netflix.

I do have a netflix account but I have noticed that some movies just don't look as good as they do on blu ray. They claim that everything is streamed at 1080p but it's obviously not. I watched the new star trek movie and it looked amazing but I watched the sorcerers apprentice and it looked horrible even though it's a newer movie. I admit that netflix is the future but it will be many years before they get the streaming quality to an acceptable level.

I couldn't do that. with a big screen HD TV I can't see streaming from the net. Almost everything looks like crap unless you get it from netflix or a VOD site.

I still have DVD for now as 98% of the movies we buy are for my son. No sense in paying almost double the price for a disk that will most likely get dropped, get covered in food or be thrown as a Frisbee from time to time.

Wife usese them to throw at me as a weapon..

He's talking about downloading torrents. They usually look great at 4 GB and higher sizes. Most people couldn't tell the difference between the blu-ray and the compressed pirated copy.

When I got my player several years back at the low price of $550, I purchased several discs. I've bought one or two movies via eBay, but I haven't bought a single disc in last year.

I still by dvds and have no intention on upgrading to Blu Ray. I've never downloaded entire movies yet.

I choose:
- I still use dvds but I plan on updating to blu ray

because there is no option:
- I still use dvds and won't buy a blu ray player

I buy them and usually don't even bother opening them. I just download a copy via torrents into my HTPC. 1080p HD downloads FTW!

On a proper HD flatscreen I have to disagree.

It's not really full HD on a DVD unless it's a very old title. In order to fit the movie on the DVD disk the quality must be reduced. I forget what the technical term is.

I used to think it was cool to own movies, but then I realize it for suckers. I'd rather use the money for something that won't sit on my shelf un-opened for years. I'll rent.

2160p is just around the corner. I wonder if they will come out with a new format for it.

I probably have 30 - 40 Blurays. I have to really, really like a certain movie to buy it. A few I owned on DVD and then bought the bluray just get the better image quality.

Most of the newer ones take over half the disk. Even older ones take up 18-20. There are plenty of PS3 games that use up all or most of the space.

DVD movies always had to be compressed from the original movie to make them fit on the disk.

I still use DVD. With upscaling and progressive scan and everything, they look pretty good. I also use netflix.

No plans on going to blu ray.

I have an HD TV and a PS3, but have only ever watched one blu-ray. It was Resident Evil 4, and I rented it from Redbox. I was impressed by the high resolution for sure, but I'll probably stick with watching movies on Netflix

I buy them for my 3 year old daughter. They are really cool and are interactive with kid games.

As for me, I never buy Blue Rays for me. I get them sent from blockbuster. I see them once and im done. Blue Rays do have cool extras that i dig on. And the quality is way noticeable.

Not yet, maybe in another 5-10 years.

Blu ray and DVD sales are higher than ever. Even as the average Internet connection gets faster the movie industry will adjust by putting out more stuff with lots of extra features. This will keep collectors buying for a time. I think there is at least 10 years left before hard formats die out.

I have a blu ray drive on the computer but no standalone player. The difference really is quite noticeable, but I can't justify getting gouged so badly. I'll wait a few more years for prices to come down.

I have watched 6 GB+ movies on a 71 inch 1080P TV and they look great. You would have to do a side by side comparison with the original blu-ray to see any difference at all. Keep in mind these are full 1080P videos with DTS or dolby digital sound.

These are much better quality than netflix or any streaming service.

A lot of that space is taken up by things like multiple audio tracks, commentary, etc., usually in Full HD audio. That shit takes up a lot of space. If you take out the HD audio and replace it with regular DTS or dolby digital, it saves tons of space, which is how all the torrents come. I have seen the odd one that has HD audio too, and their file sizes are much bigger.

$6 to $30 per title unless it's a box set.
