What kind of wine do you like?

I wouldn't say I'm a connoisseur, but I probably know more than the average person about wines.

Living in Europe for 4 years gave me an appreciate for French (particularly Alsacian) wines, Italian wines, and yes even German wines. Germany produces some incredible wine (Spatburgunders in particular are incredible) but they only seem to export the stuff that comes out of the Mosel valley.

Anyway, I have a soft spot for Zinfandel blends, some of the best are from www.ridgewine.com.
I (like many others) also enjoy Cabernet Sauvignon.

Any faves worth mentioning?

I prefer Moscato D'Asti. Not a big red wine fan.

I'm in the same boat. I'm not big on wine but I do like the occasional dessert wine. A good Muscadine sweet wine with dessert is always nice.

Bordeaux is defintely a fav.Though spending summers in Astaffort as a young teenager has probablly made me bias.Buting litre bottles from the chateau is a memory not to be forgotten

Some Beaujolais is very very nice and light. But also some California and even BC wine is very good , dependent on circumstances.

Send serge this thread ;-)

I love wine studied seriously for several years. I really try to pair and change for each occasion. For steak I will stick with a heavy red (silver oak) or a pinot noir (domain chandon). During the day I like a white, pinot grigio or a anything good and chilled. Sometimes a brut champagne, mumms or chandon is great. Also ports are nice when just chillin at home.

I'm a big fan of the screw off cap wines and a nice April vintage.

Or on a more serious note... a dry chardonnay.

I love wine and know enough to have a good talk with most wine drinkers. I like Pinot Noir and Syrah/Shiraz as we grow some great stuff in this part of the world but mostly like to try something different with friends.

Had a bottle of Felton Road Block 3 Pinot Noir on Xmas day that was amazing.

Domaines Ott is easily my favorite rose. Great with oysters. I've also had and really liked the Tignanello. But Santa Margherita????? I know it's a really popular wine for girls here in NYC, something which I suspect had to do with Sex In The City, and I do admit that it's a decent table wine, but in no way does it merit a mention beside your other two choices.

It's widely regarded as the best pinot grigio (or pinot gris) and costs nearly twice as much as any other pinot grigio, but a bottle is still only about $30. How is their pinot grigio 50% better than any other pinot grigio and what does it say about grape itself when it's best, most expensive wine is $30? Marketing and crap are the answers.

Anyway, Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc is prob my favorite white (they have it at Bond. St. - http://bondstrestaurant.com/drink.php). Can't think of my favorite red at the moment.

I'm a sucker for Mclaren Vale or Barossa Shiraz. Also, I love Gigondas, has a nice leathery, meaty and spicy quality about it. Really anything from the Rhone will do. And for finesse, a Pinot from NZ or Oregon, great value, when compared to Burgundy.

As for white, I tend to gravitate towards NZ Sauvignion Blanc

Red, white, makes no difference to me. As long as it's dry, flavorful with a good finish I'm good to go. Pinot, sauvignon, merlot, chardonnay, whatever. I've found all kinds that I like. Even some of the box wines out lately are quite drinkable.

"No no, it must be at least a $400 bottle of wine, I won't drink anything less"

I laugh at wine snobs.

I am not really a pinot, my girl drinks it. But some times with dinner, if I am making fish of some sort. I like it. There are other good ones under that price range. You can find SM in Brooklyn for about 19 bucks a bottle. So its really not that bad 30 i would not spend.

When I do drink wine it is typically the summer, and it is usually rose. Domaines Ott is always the choice. There are a few other good ones that are cheaper. But I always keep stock of DO in my fridge.

Tignanello with a steak is ridiculous.

Give these a shot:

Pinot Noir: Merry Edwards
Sauvignon Blanc: Merry Edwards (again)
Good Blends: Flora Springs "Trilogy" or Benziger "Tribute"
Tuscan Blends: Flora Springs "Sangiovese"
Zinfandel: Trentadue "La Storia"
Riesling: Trefethen

I hit Napa and Sonoma every 2-3 weeks and have the liver to prove it

This just reminded me.... The steakhouse in the hotel in Hollywood, FL offered us a wine that was made by the brother of the guys who make Silver Oak. It tasted very similar and the cost was just less as he was just starting out.. or so the story went. I've often been tempted to call up and ask about it. I can't remember the name of it for the life of me.

You probably mean Duncan's winery - run by his son, not brother. Twomey.

I drink only Burgundy from reds. Nothing like wines from Côte d'Or!

Starting my dinner with Champagne rosé, moving to some Grand Cru of Domaine Faiveley or Chambertin Clos de Beze and finishing witha glass of cognac Delamain from Grand Champagne. And please, served in Riedel glasses. C'est tres important. Endless joy is guaranteed.
