Anyone here use Sony Vegas Pro 9?
Just a few questions for you if you use or know Sony Vegas Pro 9.
What is the best file format to use when importing? I tried MP4 imported from my Sony camcorder, and ironically it wouldn't open the videos. So I got total video converter, and was playing around with that, decided to go with changing it from an MP4 into an AVI file, and it opened it up this time but only the audio track! The video plays fine in windows media player in both formats. But vegas won't touch the MP4 (shot on a sony camera, sony software don't like it) Or an AVI format. So, what format should I convert to in order to edit all the footage I have got? All suggestions welcome ![]() |

you are missing a codec....first mp4 is a CONTAINER NOT a format. you need the codec for the format you are using gspot can tell you what that is
the best format for sd is avi for hd its wmv (vegas 10 handles h.264 really well if you have a compatible video card) yer sony camcorder is likely using sonys avchd which is an H.264

What he said... (except I don't agree that wmv is the best working format for hd, or ANYTHING for that matter) I use mp4 in Vegas all the time plus I prefer MediaInfo over gspot for determining the codec etc http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/en ![]() |

I agree that wmv sucks but if you dont have hardware acceleration or an i7 most HD formats will play choppy from the timeline making editing a pain in the ass.
you can use 3rd party stuff like sorenson squeeze or whatever but i went the dont spend money and fuck transcoding route.... 1080P H.264 on vegas requires an i7 unless you have vegas 10 and a hardware h.264 video card. the klite codec pak is good but i would only install the codecs you need because it can cause codecs to conflict with each other...for what he wants sony may have a codec download available...forget the sony forums and creative cow they are mostly morons i never got answers worth reading there.

Thanks for the info guys
![]() I'm new to video pretty much. The only thing I've used before is windows movie maker ![]() But that can't do what I need now, so I got Vegas 9 about 6 months ago. Only just getting round to trying it out. I've been playing around with the effects and stuff like that but not done any real work on there yet. |
