REALLY?

When Canadian letter carriers went on strike three weeks ago they hoped to force the national postal service, Canada Post, to back down from a cost-cutting proposal to dramatically reduce wages.

Three weeks later, lawmakers are preparing to legislate them back to work, but Canadians are asking just how much a modern cyber-connected society needs the post office anyway.

?If I get my mail, I get my mail, but if I really have to do something I go on the Internet,? says Janina, a bank teller.

True, some businesses say they have had to scramble to try to fill orders and receive payments that would usually be sent by mail, and charities some say they are missing out on donations. But observers say that by going on strike, postal workers have likely sealed their own fate by proving it's possible to function without daily mail delivery.

?Many find mail in paper form to be quaint; it no longer plays a central role in society,? an editorial in The Globe and Mail daily newspaper concluded. ?The strike will only accelerate that trend by making online converts of those who have hitherto been reluctant.?

As of today I read the NDP can delay the bill up to next weekend. This was on globeandmail.com ... I hope that's not the case!
Yesterday however, I saw on TV most people don't predict this to go further than Monday.

We switched all of our payouts to Fedex and made wire payments available. If you're an affiliate, most programs offer wire or electronic payments. Switch over to these methods until the postal strike is over. Nothing else you can do until then if you need the cash.

Or if you're not stuck for the cash at the moment, increase your minimum payout to $2000 and ask for wire payments only. Your cost to receive your payment will only 0.75% or less compared to the 10% or so some might be paying now.

Ah good idea Mark, I should've raised my minimum amount. Probably too late now though since this strike should end next week.

They aren't getting their baby bonus and family allowance checks. For some of them that's 40 percent of their monthly income. Postal strike rough on a lot of people.. I'm glad they are working on a back-to-work order.

The strike was on ridiculous grounds anyways. Make an entire country suffer because of retirement, employment and wage benefits that are changing across the board in every industry including their own. Don't like how the company is headed? Go with the competition then.. it's just as bad there. Purolator and UPS have both laid off 100's of employees for the past few years and cut back retirement packages yet only their Quebec based employees (at purolator) are allowed to have a union. Never hear of them striking either. Even though they make less than Canada Post employees and minimal benefits.
I'll bet anything that if you offer some free diapers, they'll come pick them up in their cars.

Are other Canadian webmasters feeling the pinch? I called the US Postal Service and they told me checks are being held at the post office and not being sent. At least they're not getting returned.

Any fellow Canadians, feel free to post news on the postal strike here and vent your frustrations.
Hi Glocks,

A lot of our new cardholders have been affected by this strike as well, so we are offering to send the cards via DHL for a fraction of the price. If your companies DO end up offering Payoneer and the postal service is still on strike, please email me and I will make sure you get this discount (though you should receive it regardless, I can just make it happen faster).
