I think I've lost my optimism...

Been in a funky rut lately... What kills me is every time I come up with a new idea that feeling of optimism is barely there....

I think I'm burnt out...

Best to do is physical activity if you feel that way. That and get some sun.

My optimism, productivity and motivation to do anything comes in periods. I can check forum/stats for weeks before I do any actual work and in other periods I work 12 hours/day because I enjoy it, maybe it's the same for you?

Also try to eat more healthy, exercise, fuck...

I know the feeling mate.

Recession doesn't help, even if it's not affecting you directly.

The reality of life is probably just kicking in...

Gonna make a guess you've recently hit your early/mid thirties.

Exactly the same here. Started last week the planning of a new blog with redheads. Very enthusiastic, but then it just stopped. Luckily, today I am "back" and ready to get to work.

What I did: totally ignored working for 2-3 days. Took my wife out for a nice lunch, shopping, doing fun stuff. Playing on m y Xbox360 I very seldom play games, but this week I did. Was fun... Watched a few movies... But (almost) no work. Suggest the same for you AND some exercise, like swimming.

ya i work 3-5 hours a day max unless i have a big project. like this week i added Facebook integration (wall & photo import) and social video embedding to PornCMS. so i've been working 12-15 hour days all week to get it done. next week will be relaxing tho...

i do plenty of all 3 of those things. what i want is for my two housekeepers, gardener, kid's nanny, in-laws and all the random people on our property to get out of here so i can smoke a bowl and enjoy some porn. or swim nude. or have 5 minutes of privacy. lol.

Don't confuse lack of optimism with lack of motivation.

Good luck getting things turned around...

Usually happens when life becomes repetitive. I suggest either a side project, completely alternative to what you have ever done or take up a hobby that will take your mind off work. Anything but stamp collecting :p. Get an XBOX 360 and hit up some Call of Duty or Fallout New Vegas and disconnect for a while

I have had a string of bad luck lately... Like you and every other entrepreneur I have ever met, we are addicted to the rush we get when an idea goes from a simple thought to reality and cash flows...

I have so many ideas and projects just sitting on the sidelines... Some I know should make some dough, but I just lack any optimism or motivation to try them. Which is not like me at all. I usually have a million things going on and things running a million miles a second...

Make a plan and stick to it. You don't necessarily need motivation or optimism to get things done. Just do them. The rest will come as you complete projects.

Try these:

- Take a vacation. Even a short weekend will do wonders for you and help clear your head.

- Spend some time alone. Give yourself time to think. No TV. Just think.

- Go jogging. If you're in a rut, you may feel a little depressed. Jogging will make you feel better, and fresh air and sunshine will make all the difference too.

- Forget the computer a little while. Scribble down your ideas and map them out with pencil and paper before expanding these ideas on your computer. . You will spend more time being creative on seed ideas this way.

Good luck!

its very hard to stay any kind of positive in this constantly increasingly negative world. economy is shit, jobs are shit, sales are shit. what is good?? what is there to look forward to besides death? anything? everything? nothing?

the world is full of whiny fucking babies. here is something you can do to help: go kill yourself

it is the easiest solution. it will fix all your problems. but most of you whiny babies do not even have the balls to do that.

there is an entire world out there. what is stopping you from experiencing it? grow some fucking balls and turn yourself into a go getter. not tom but NOW.

life is 99% a mental game. in the end none of it matters, but why waste your time being a little baby and not going after the things you really want.

what are you afraid of? judgement? failure?

failing is an amazing feeling because in the end you always survive and life forces you to move forward.

A) grow a set of balls and do something B) kill yourself all problems gone.

have fun choosing.

i think most people fear losing what they currently have, even if they are not happy with it, when what they are chasing will most likely fail. failure might not feel so great when it leaves you homeless in a country where you don't even speak the language.

See, that explains it. I run every day. Always have. It's twenty or thirty minutes of my life that is mine. I take my dog and while I'm out I plan out my day.

The above quote is the best advice yet. I have seen people do this in the past and return years later with much greater success.

getting attached to things is someones own personal issue. you shouldnt bother having things in the first place if you do not understand you can lose them.
