Anyone used the Pligg Scrip? What are your opinions on it? Is it stable and secure?

Pligg as a social networking platform is ok providing you have the technical expertise and coding ability to fix issues yourself and to keep your site secure.
A much better, open source but not free, social networking platform is Social Engine which has a wide user base, a mature code base and excellent support. I have used Dolphin, Social Engine and Pligg in testing and only found Social Engine to be worth using on a production site. |

Social Engine has so many advantages over Dolphin and Pligg. Membership billing is built right into the Social Engine core, so you don't need to add a plugin which may break in order to sell site memberships. It also has extensibility and well commented code. Social Engine uses a plugins system for add ons which protects existing code from damage, whereas addons for Dolphin and Pligg generally modify core code. The path between installation and opening your site is the simplest with Social Engine. |

This is why I would recommend Social Engine. It really depends how much your time is worth. Do you want to be hacking away at things continually or do you just want to get up and running ? Another option of course is PhpFox which has some market acceptance. You can also run the free version of Dolphin. However nothing I have seen or used comes close to the usability and flexibility of Social Engine |
