I decided to hang in London for an extra couple of days

I decided to blow off Munich and Oktoberfest and spend an extra day or two in London.

A couple of questions:

1. I will be going from London to Chicago. Is Heathrow the airport to use?
2. Is there a section of London I should consider staying in once I leave the show hotel?

Just stay away from Kings Cross unless you want to be robbed, raped, or murdered. You are welcome.

usually yes, but it's up to the flight and airline. if you look up flights just search from London in general and dont specify an airport, otherwise you might miss cheaper options

You might want to take a look at Gatwick when you're at it. I prefer travelling to/ from Heathrow but Gatwick have had more flights/ better deals lately. They're not TOO far from each other either xx

I did the same thing and stayed the weekend in London before going home on my last trip to Europe. Stayed in Piccadilly Circus. Kind of a touristy area, but it's pretty central to attractions like Buckingham Palace, Big Ben not too far, etc. Easy to walk around, then took the subway to Camden and checked that out. Our hotel was a block from the tube station and took us right into Heathrow.

Hey Lloyd

Heathrow is the main airport in London, but is still a good hour on the train to the West.

Gatwick is about 30 minutes by train, although it is further away.

DO NOT GET A CAB!

I REPEAT DO NOT GET A CAB.

They will hear your accent and buttfuck you. ASACP Tim had a horrendous fare from Heathrow for the XBiz gathering a few months ago.

As for areas, depends. Central would probably be your best, yet most expensive option.

I like the Crown Plaza Hotel, it's fairly central and not too badly priced.

And learn how the underground works if you want to get around. It is safe clean and easy. Cabs are very expensive.

The big museums are all around South Kensington, which would be another nice area to stay. They are all free.

There is cool photo opps with the architecture in the City itself, which is a specific part of London.

Dunno about good sushi, but toptable.co.uk and http://www.squaremeal.co.uk/ are reliable sources. You might like to start here http://www.squaremeal.co.uk/restaura...e_Meal_3_Stars

I recommend the cinnamon club, it's amazing.

If you want to try real Indian food instead of the version America seems to make, head for Brick Lane, in east London.

Oh, and remember coffee is paid for PER CUP, no bottomless stuff here.

If you want to come down to the countryside, I am 1.5 hours from London on the train and you would be more than welcome to stay. It is very pretty here. Green rolling hills and castles and stuff.

Anyway, am flying in to Gatwick and was planning on using Londontown to get to London (West End). Only 30 pounds. Good deal?

When I leave I am going via City Airport to AMS, then home.

Thanks for the offer of the stay, but tix already booked otherwise I would definitely take you up on it. I have a feeling I will be return.

If you go to Kensington you may want to try Blakes Hotel very unique as each room has a different design, but be warned its expensive. Neal Street Restaurant was one of the very best restaurants in London and its within walking distance of Oxford Street. You will find ton's to do in that area. Brick Lane is great for Indian food as DamianJ pointed out. Have a good time

From Gatwick, there is little opportunity for bullshit. One route in.

However, there are several train lines that run from Gatwick to London, the reg trains take about 45 mins.

The train to London costs around £14. So, if you want to pay the extra to get the transfer, it doesn't sound bad.

Oh, another thing, don't tip in bars. No one does. You will be looked at weirdly. You may, if you want, tip cabbies. About 12% at restaurants. But not in bars.

Hell yeah. I'd love to. I've not lived there for about 4 years, so don't know the 'cool' bars anymore, but I can certainly help you see the best parts of the city, museums, art galleries, lesser known attractions etc.

Be my pleasure.

I thought the show in London was actually going to the 25th, but the only thing planned that day is the Oktoberfest party in Germany, lol.

I know a bunch of people that will be around on the 25th that want to explore. Will you still be around?
