If a "really great doctor" charges $599 "evaluation"..
My woman has a friend who went to this amazing doctor who doesn't just treat symptoms. He stays with it and finds the root cause. He is well known and amazing. It costs $599 for an evaluation. My woman thinks we can go and see him.
I told her if it's $599 to walk in the door.. it's going to take $5000 to $50000 before it's over with. That guy is going to want to make 99999 more appointments after he adjusts this med or puts her on that or takes her off this and on and on and on ... I told her that paying the $599 is like buying the hood ornament from Rolls Royce. Right? It's just buying something that's really expensive to us that won't get us anywhere.. Isn't it? They want it upfront, right then, on the spot. |

You really need to wonder, if the US doesn't have a third world health system, how would it be described ?

$599 is a fishy number for an evaluation.
I would expect a reputable doctor to charge an even $600. At $599 he sounds more like a used car salesman. |

It is kind of odd, isn't it? http://www.riordanclinic.org/about/faqs.shtml What is the cost of our services? The Initial evaluation for Chronic Illness care is $599. An initial assessment for Lifestyle Care is $399. After the initial evaluation/assessment each patient/co-learner is given specific therapy recommendations to address their specific needs. See the Chronic Care and Lifestyle care sections of our website for details on each program. |

It all depends on what's wrong with your wife. Is it a serious illness? it is a pain somewhere? is it cancer? it all depends, may be the guy is worth it. In any case, I would call the clinic and ask them to specify what all is included in that consultation fee

My logic is simply this.. It doesn't matter if he's better than the people at hopkins if we can't possibly afford him long enough to make her well. Am I being obtuse here some way?

I just looked at the website http://www.riordanclinic.org/about/doctors.shtml and it looks like they have just two MDs for the whole clinic? BTW, all those healing art, naturopathic medicine specialists - can't say I trust it. How about seeing a doctor instead?

And my point was that not always many visits are necessary to make things work ok. Although you are right that sometimes it does - this is where you need to ask. Even though looking at the profile of the place it seems like waste of time and money. Hyperthyroid is pretty common and a good endocrinologist should be able to manage it well.

I can tell these people are frauds just by reading that. I thought you posted a bit ago that her GP was sending her to a specialist? |

Yeah the GP kept telling us we'd get in to see an endo soon.. then at the last appointment would not see her because we hadn't enough cash on us. The nurse or whoever said that all the appointment would accomplish, any way, was for her to tell us that we could get on some waiting list for some program and it's pretty long I've been looking for other programs too I think that we can get a "referral" from this gp by phone but I'm, pretty sure when we show up with no ins, we'll be showing up back out in the parking lot ![]() |

i would spend the $600 on a complete comprehensive blood panel, everything including vitamins, it will run $600-$800. available via web, then go from there.

you are setting yourself up assuming this is originally a hormone problem, getting strictly hormone panels done and seeking out a hormone doctor. that's completely wrong. |

If your wife has an overactive thyroid, stop with the bullshit, forget these faith healer type places and even going to a GP. Get to an endo TODAY.
Left untreated this is a life threatening illness. Even if she doesn't die, every day you delay her treatment gives her body that much more damage.

Going to a doctors appointment to which you know you're going to have to pay without enough money is your first mistake. Nobody is going to help you doing stupid shit like this.
Please go out and get a goddamn job. |

But if your wife has a serious problem just take her to a specialist ASAP, I'd forget going to that clinic/doctor first. |
