Yeah I think they just took familysearch.org (the free directory from the mormons) and made you pay.

well i was browsing the 1881 UK census the other morning, very interesting, stuff that none of my living relatives could tell me.. so these sites are good for getting information, but stick to official records.

I used it a few years ago, as the company I worked for had over 5,000 uncashed payroll checks, from a company they bought out. Did a lot of research there, including old census records. Was able to prove one retired woman who was never married, so no question of a spousal claim, had been issued 84 monthly retirement checks, after she had died. Checks were never cashed, but still have no clue what happened to them. Once I proved we issued checks to the dead, we weren't required to escheat the money to the state unclaimed property office. Saving that $40,000 more than paid for buying the membership.
