A friend of mine is producing a short doc for his Master's thesis. He just got Noam Chomsky to agree to be interviewed for the movie.

The man is my goto on all political issues, I'm currently reading Hopes and Prospects.

My biggest gripe is that he might not be here much longer.

this is the nature of 'man' and other top predators in the animal kingdom. what Noam is speaking of is not really different than politics in the dark ages, the age of crusades and the middle ages. even though the top .01% control unprecedented wealth the the common man in a first world country has a better life in most of the worlds histroy.

"If the natural tendencies of mankind are so bad that it is not safe to permit people to be free, how is it that the tendencies of these organizers are always good? Do not the legislators and their appointed agents also belong to the human race? Or do they believe that they themselves are made of a finer clay than the rest of mankind?"

Spain 1930s. Kibbutz system in Israel. There are more examples of anarchism that there is of communism.

I don't want to insult you but it's obvious you haven't read the Communist Manifesto, the end goal is the means of production in the hands of the masses not the means of production in the hands of the state. The system you describe sounds like the Soviet Union, Vietnam or Cuba which aren't communist at all (see Chomsky), just like the US isn't capitalist.

I don't hold Marx in the same esteem as some communists do; I don't believe in the transitional period where the power is temporarily held by the state as history shows it is never handed back.

I very briefly subscribed to the Hayek school of thinking, but when you try and apply such a theory to things like healthcare, it's clear it would never work. So I went one stage further and concluded that it was capitalism itself that is broken.

The capitalist class takes the product of the workers labor and makes their own. A worker is employed for say $200 a week but produces good/services to the value of $500, a surplus profit of $300 for the capitalist. The police, army etc are their to make sure the workers don't take it back.

Communism will not need to use force if the capitalist class just hands over the wealth it has stolen from the world's people. That said, children are dying ever minute of want, while capitalism still exists.

I think I mentioned it to him before. I don't blame him for not having the correct definition though, communism/socialism = state control is a point that has been pushed very heavily in America.

pretty funny really... and the guy that organizes all the work, guides all the efforts, shows people the way and works 100 hours a week deserves as much as some jerk off shoveling dirt 30 hours a week then drinking beer and having kids the rest of the time?

As most wealth in passed from generation to generation, and you have managers (very well paid ) to do the work you talk about, you'll find that the rich rarely wipe their own asses.
