Yes, i had this when i was young. Got in a fight, went to punch the guy while he was trying some martial arts kick and i punched him square in his knee.
Took at least a week before it didn't bother me much, but then again i was like 14 years old so i healed a lot faster. First few days it did hurt like hell though. on edit- don't know about a specialist, but a decent doctor is a good idea.

i actually fell off of a ladder helping a girlfriend install track lighting. I got it set in the ER within an hour of it happening. my palm is blue

Well.. I've had a boxers fracture about 5 times on my left hand.. From punching people and things like walls and hitting a stud.. If your hand is broken through and disfigured I'd suggest going to the doctor..
My 2nd, 3rd, and 4th time I did not goto the doctor.. On the 4th time it was not healing right when I set it myself using bracing material and wrap so I had to take a hammer to it and re break it myself with a strike to it. (I shit you not so that was the 5th time breaking it) It took 6-8 weeks to heal up each time on its own and my hand looks like its been broken a bunch now and I have alot of calcification on my last metacarpal that I've broken .. Eventually I'll probably get surgery on it.. The first time I broke it I had a cast on, healing was much easier.. So yeah.. goto a doctor if it looks fucked up.. 6-8 weeks to heal..
