Using Paypal for adult related services, not subscriptions?

I need a billing solution for an adult related B2B website.

I know Paypal does not allow adult websites in general for subscriptions, but what about "service" type websites?

For example, say I setup something like themeforest but for adult themes ( Thats not what I am doing ) , if there were no actual pornography on the themes or website would paypal allow this?

Thanks!

from what i understand people are using paypal to sell physical adult videos so adult oriented wp themes should be fine.

Just ask them. If somebody here tells you no problem and then they close your account you will have no recourse.

I plan on asking them, but I have heard horror stories about the knowledge of their reps so I was looking for real life user experiences.

Agreed. They know even less than IRS reps -- believe me.

JuicyAds sends and receives payment via PayPal, and that sounds comparable to what you're describing. Should be OK.

email [email protected] with your full business model and they will either allow or deny the site. We have done this and have approval from Paypal for some adult b2b sites.

You're welcome. Good luck with it. Paypal can be good to deal with if you are on the level with them from day one.

always ask them because then it's documented.

just because 1 company gets away with things doesn't mean you will.

the more business you do with paypal the more leverage you get. for example they'd ban a small site in an instant if there is a complaint but will never ban a bigger company. A good example of this is DealExtreme.com who used to sell a lot of illegal and counterfeit things but their volume was too large for paypal to consider banning them. They just tell them to stop doing it.

So make sure u always have things documented, especially an area like adult and paypal

Paypal limited my account cause a customer wrote Adult service in the description of a payment.
Then I saw that even extreme sites like extreme-board forum accept donations through Paypal.
I have not yet figured out their policy.

1. ask them. (and save the email).
2. make sure you also get lots of nonadult related payments.

When it comes to adult related content/services/toys and paypal it's really a case by case basis. You might get approval only to be shutdown a few months later. That's the chance you take with paypal.

I contacted them explaining my business plan and they want to see the site live in action before giving me a concrete answer. I suppose I will have to do this, except it's a pain in the ass because without using paypal the project would most likely not be launched since the profit margins are quite small and they have low fees. Using a merchant account is not an option, yet.

I will update this again.

You can just call and ask their representatives. They will take any business they can get if it works for their policies. They have a complete list of what is and what is not considered "high risk". We've spoken directly to clarify what is and isn't allowed. We even tried to persuade them to try adult again, but it's actually more of a financial cost for them because of the measures they have to put in place to meet high-risk merchant account standards (legal fees, staff to review & approve, Visa & MC reporting requirements, etc).
