Almost lost it yesterday .. but still SOBER

I have been sober nearly three months, not a drop. Last night I bought a beer. I walked over to the store to get it. On the way back, I opened it. And it smelled better than 1000 of the cleanest freshest snatches on planet earth all in your face all at the same time. I mean to say that the beer looked like 1000 pairs of female breasts, buttocks, snatches and female ass holes ..... that is how good this beer looked .. And I swear. It smelled so god damned good.

But I left it sitting there on a ledge under the bridge. I opened it. But didn't drink any.

It was cold out - I am sure some street urchin enjoyed it.

Good for you. My experience is that the desire to drink completely goes away if I follow some simple suggestions.

Quote:

The body processes alcohol by first turning it into acetone. For some people, their body doesn't process the acetone properly. The build up of acetone creates a craving for more alcohol. It's kind of like if your body totnes water into salt, then the salt made you more thirsty. Thus for these people one drink almost unavoidably leads to many more. For this class, one drink is too many and a thousand isn't enough. They only way they can drink responsibly is to drink none at all.

Works with cigarettes, women, etc.

the desire to drink never really goes away, but controlling it is the key.

Congratulations! I've been sober 6 months now. I do this every once in a while. Drink too much for a while, then sober up for a few years.

I don't see an empty can off in the distance in pic #1. Looks like you just dropped an opened can and took a pic of it.

Interesting. I though it was more of a mental/psychological issue that makes them drink more.

dude if you dwell on it just drink it. you need to clean it out of your system start drinking wheatgrass and plenty of water. and don't start smoking doesnt make sense to drop one addiction to chain yourself to another.

I guess some people just don't have the chemical makeup to get addicted to alcohol. I played in bands for YEARS and drank up a tanker of liquor in that time... I never got any addiction to it... my friends did though. I have had a few times where I drank enough to get sick and pass out but that was rare... usually, I just stop at a certain point when I feel too buzzed.

Same goes for coke... I used to do it a lot so I could stay awake all night and party (that shit is like Viagra to me - now I just drink a 5 hour energy - much better than having that crap running down my throat)... Some of the people who I used to do coke with turned into crack heads... I never understood the addiction part of it.

I am addicted to cigarettes though... *cough*

I believe it's both. For some, like me, the mental / psychological is more prevalent. An addictive personality, some call it. Underlying my actions are my thoughts, the mental / psychological thing you mentioned. Underlying my thoughts is a deeper level, what some call the spiritual level. Since I have the addictive personality / spirit, I'll smoke ridiculous amounts of weed, drink to excess, whatever.

There is also a physical on/off switch, a difference in the way some people's bodies process alcohol specifically, and it's genetic. Texas A&M university did some research on that. For those with the physical allergy, a couple of drinks creates a physical chain reaction it seems, having to do with the acetone stage of metabolism. This phenomenon of craving is occurs only in those with the physical difference, the biological alcoholic.

This craving chain reaction is, I think, why an alcoholic's behavior can be so mysterious to a non-alcoholic. "Can't you learn to just drink like a gentleman." No, no more than a diabetic can learn to eat candy. The non-alcoholic never experiences the chain reaction of craving and so does not understand it.
