why do thy Playboy sites suck?

Playboy has some of the most amazing content so why do their sites suck? Why isn't there a celebrity tour, a vintage tour, deep linking to models, classic pictorials, why can't we promote playboy.com which is the best site? why? whyyyyy?

Some would see that as an opportunity!

Anyhow, they've just been taken over, so expect big changes

Playboy are one of my best

I think often times when content (especially the same content) is spun off into new mediums to try to make extra money those properties often aren't as good as the original brand/product. The priority was never having a great web presence imo. You can't expect to give something second rate attention and produce first rate results.

I stopped looking at Playboy when I was in the 8th grade. Sure I'm not the only one.

the Playboy.com site is pretty nice from what I remember - it's the other niche ones they have based on their Special Editions mags that look cheesey.

Playboy still has a ton of fresh girls that nobody else does, a lot of girls will only do a nude shoot for Playboy. They use a lot of different photogs, some are good, some not so good. A lot of their content is cliched now.

There are ways of making Playboy convert like it's 2005, you've just got to use your imagination with it

These are my Playboy stats for the end of November, notice no referral link from me, just honestly giving credit where it's due for their excellent conversion ratio. Those conversion ratios show what is possible if you get it right. If you put a bit of creativity into promoting Playboy, at $1 to sign up for 2 days, you get paid $35 PPS, you can do very well.

Playboy and Homegrown? Truth is stranger than fiction!

imo, has more to do with the ironic conflict that results from producing a nudie mag that uses sex appeal to sell itself but doesn't see itself as being porn at all and in fact has at times even expressed disdain at the rest of the sex industry.

Some very intelligent people have worked there over the years and tried to get through that conflict and failed and that is because Hef convinced himself long ago that it was more about the brand and the notion that everyone actually really did want to read the articles more than anything else.

Considering how much they make on just the brand and in non-porn markets you can't blame him.

Smart move though to finally realize that the "adult" side of the Playboy brand (at least online) could and should be licensed as well and that they went with Manwin since they obviously seem to have a clue in that department...

Manwin took over the Playboy/RealityCash sites a few months ago. All I know is that they're late on last pay period's checks.

Oh yea .. and they don't respond to emails either.

They must be busy switching everything over. I've found them really helpful on email (Brian Tassillo)

They convert no worse (or better) than any other hardcore sponsor with the right traffic. Always paid on time here.

This is all, of course, my opinion, so take it as such.

Playboy is a funny company, in that it's almost "upside down" in terms of technology. In most companies, technology directives flow down from the top. Look at Facebook, Zynga, etc. In some companies, such as Google, technology directives flow down from the top, but interesting technology suggestions also percolate back up from the engineers.

In Playboy's case, however, bright ideas are suppressed by a hostile and borderline incompetent layer of management that reaches into the top levels of the organization. Innovation is stifled, and just "keeping up" with the current state of the industry becomes a struggle for them.

Remember that at BEST they were led somewhat astray about the Reality Cash numbers and prospects. This probably soured the company on the affiliate model, especially after lackluster performance proceeded the acquisition.

Without Lensman actively pushing, and with much of the real talent having left the building (with a few very notable exceptions), it's probably tough to do much of anything but tread water.
