"Lean Back 2.0", apart being a horrible PR term, sums up the consumption of content on devices such as e-readers and tablets where you can sit back and consume content in comfort without sitting at a keyboard and screen.

In a presentation by Andrew Rashbass, the CEO of The Economist Group, the tradiotional print and world wide web publishing model is described as "irrevocably broken".

It's said that 42 per cent of tablet users "regularly read in-depth articles, and another 40 per cent read them occasionally ? which suggests people read more longer items on tablets than on computers". It's also been observed that "users' eye activity is far more focused on an iPad app than on a website, and many people also claim they find it easier to learn new things and enjoy news more when digesting it via a tablet".

While it is still early days and many people still do not have a tablet, some estimates say that the uptake of tablets during 2012 - 2014 will be faster than the uptake of mobile phones when they became a must have item.

With all this in mind, how are you placed for delivering content for the next wave of content consumption ? Is it possible that the prospect of consuming content using a mouse keyboard and screen will soon be usurped by content consumption on tablet devices ?

im trying to adapt my sites to it, but i am surprised about promo tools and scripts which still primarily use flash. Seeing the ipad is the most popular tablet out there i find it unacceptable that alot of big names ignore the fact that apple products do not have flash support. For instance, i've got a casino site and the games would be perfect for people sitting on the couch, playing them on their tablet. But the sponsors only have flash games, so im convinced im losing out big time. But i cant do anything about it.

ive been creating ads for adult companies for over a decade and I can say its been this way since the beginning. Many will spend tens of thousands of dollars on content and scripting the tour, but they end up slacking terribly in the promo department. At minimum a sponsor should have one of every single standard, odd, and mobile size available.

And couple that now with mobile and yes, its safe to say MOST sponsors are severly lacking in the mobile promo department.

Apple shouldn't be so stubborn and should include flash. Blame Apple not the people who produce the content. I have an arcade site packed with games, and 95% of them are flash. There is a few that are starting to switch to Apple friendly structure, but not many.

This isn't only a problem with Flash, it's a problem across the board.

Some big online presences think they have years to develop a tablet strategy, the reality is they need to do it now. The sales forecasts for tablets are phenomenal and some say even the best forecasts are underestimating the uptake in tablets.

Every time I go to a cafe or catch a train or tram I see many people sitting with tablets. Mobile phones took alot longer to catch on. Whereas once you would see the occasional person with a laptop you almost never do now.

It's worth noting that anyone can make their blog tablet ready simply by having a full text rss feed. This will ensure that all your content is readable by someone using Flipboard or Google Currents. Aggregation applications will get better all the time, Flipboard and Google Currents are just the beginning. It's possible to consume rich web content without even opening a browser and people are catching onto this fast.

yea i know, and i agree 100% with you and blame apple, but that doesn't change the fact that apple doesn't and probably will never support it. They have this arrogant position, and with so many users they can be arrogant, and with this position it's up to others to adapt to them instead of the, completely logical, other way around. Because apple are assholes.

Don't forget that Adobe has now adopted a position of support for HTML5 on Mobile devices, so mobile flash is pretty much headed for obsolescence anyway.

Yeah it's pretty shocking how stubborn a company that is supposed to be "user friendly" can be. But anyway, back to the original point.

I have recently found a service that easily turns your wordpress site into a native app, only problem is it isn't cheap, and being wordpress there may be certain things you can't do with it. I think the setup fee was $299 then $29.99 per month subscription. Guess it really depends how much a site makes and how much more you could earn by having the bigger user base.

Only problem with that is, Apple isn't excactly adult app friendly is it? So how that will work out I don't know.

Perhaps it would be easier to clone a wordpress site and make it mobile friendly instead of turning it into an app but I'm still learning and looking anyway.

The number one thing to start taking advantage of this new market is SO simple, yet so many people screw it up.

I clicked on three link to the article in the post above titled "10 Year old shoots his mother's attacker with BB gun." I was taken to the front page of their mobile site, which has no mention of the article I clicked on. I went and found the article on another site. That's be better off doing NOTHING than redirecting all tragic from portable devices away from the pages people are trying to see.

If you feel you must redirect "mobile" traffic, redirect it to a mobile formatted version of THE SAME PAGE, not to a mobile home page.
