trial member that constantly sign up and cancel

I'm sure a lot of you have this problem. Its starting to piss me off because now there are several people who sign up for a 3 day trial and cancel several times a month. Its so bad that I actually recognize their names on the confirmation emails.

Epoch can change the trial to only allow a certain product code signup per whatever number of days you choose. Does anyone else do this? Im wondering if one trial per 30 days is a good idea.

that sucks donkey balls ...

but I don't get the point of it ..

3-day trial for 3$ .. so 10 trials at 3 bucks = 30$

isn't that what a monthly sub costs ?

They wouldn't need 10. Few people visit a paysite every day or even every 3 days...

Recommend 1 of 2 things...

1) Ditch the trial option.
2) Increase the cost of your trial substantially, such as a 3 day trial for $7.95 or something like that. Doing this will also encourage more people to join for the month because it's more attractive.

If you don't do one of those 2, you're gonna continue to get raped by repeat members and the problem will only get worse.

Exactly. If you believe that the trials aren't that necessary to your business, eliminate them altogether. If they essential, up the price and your problem will most likely be resolved

So you are complaining about getting $10 a month (or whatever 3 trials cost at your site) from these people? Sounds like you are still making a profit off of them.

My trial is 2.95 for 3 days and my monthly price is 39.95.

One dude signs up 5 or 6 times in a month so it would come out to about 15 bucks or less after processing fees while other members are paying the full 39.95.

12clicks! I would have given you a free membership, lol ;)

offering no trials simply wont work for an affiliate program.. how can it?

an affiliate doesnt want to send to a site that charges 1 price of 29-39 a month w/no trial option.. the affilaite wants to send to a site that has a free trial or a 3 day low cost trial.. conversions are better and they will get more signups and they make more money..

if you DONT run an affiliate program, then i say fuck the trial and only do monthly..

p.s. 12clicks is a fag.. he would have never joined your site.

That is not quite true.

People running pay per signup programs need trials. That's it.

2.95 for a trial is way too low. You will get as many signups with a 4.95 trial.

And 39.95 per month is way too high. No wonders why you have people joining you site with trial 3-4 times a month, I would do the same.

Do you realize it's $10 cheaper to buy 10 trials?!

its a pregnant site, the niche seems to be worth the 39 a month. Sales didnt decline when I raised it from 29 a month.

Honestly, why would anyone buy a full membership when they can just purchase a trial one as needed?

We have no trial and, like you, see members re-joining all the time - it's great. We have many members who join and quit for a month at a time every couple of months or so to get the new exclusive material. It is the main reason (but there are many more) why trials make no sense for us.

I ran across one guy the other week who has signed up and quit 9 times in the last 14 months. With a 3 dollar trial we would have made 27 bucks off of him; instead we have made $200+.

So the fact that they are coming back for your updates is a very good sign for your site and I would get rid of your trial right away.

I think surfer's have begun to associate trials with sites that are going to spam the hell out of them for life. And they are wary; they figure if a webmaster has so little respect for his content that he is willing to give it away for next to nothing then it must not be very good content.

And partnership affilaites love no-trials too - they make $11.50 minimum per signup versus maybe 2 bucks with a trial.

It is a myth that trials increase the signups/conversions drastically - the increase is only marginal. Guys are thinking with their dicks when they are surfing for porn, and to a hard dick that is being stroked vigorously 30 bucks is the same as $4.50.

If you have multiple sites and good system to spam the hell out of them for life and upsell them until they puke then maybe a trial is the way to go. If you are a smaller program or independent site then trials are simply leaving large amounts of money on the table - money that the surfer would be willing to pay if you asked him to.

ditch the trial, and add a non-recurring option perhaps like $15 for a week and watch the signups roll in

give the cheap bastards what they want, but make sure you are getting yours as well so they quit screwing you on trials.

ps. It has been well documented by business experts... one of the most common mistakes that new small businesses make is underprice their product - making it look cheap and of poor quality, and making the profit margin too small to support growth.

But what makes you think you would get ANY of their money if they weren't buying trials?

I noticed this a while back, and suggested that CCBill offer an option to limit people to one trial per name / credit card number / email address / etc. The person I mentioned it to seemed to like the idea, but nothing came of it.
