GoDaddy Stealing Domains Now?

We had a domain set to auto renew, a pay site, and godaddy allowed the domain to expire with zero notification to us. Now they are offering it for sale and the expire date was 1 day ago..We went to the site to update and wham a godaddy parked page...

Were they sold recently? Do they have a history of pulling this crap?

Pretty incredible...

I don't think so. They have always sent emails, numerous emails, saying domain is about to expire.

Plus they honor the grace period after expiration to renew as far as I know. Maybe just call them.

Their uber pro support just said site failed to bill...however, other sites have been billing, including an ssl...i guess they need that 90 bucks real bad...

We had to go in and renew it ourselves without changing any billing info...wtf?
Calling billing in the am to give them an earful...

Buncha lowlifes...

Thanks fo the replies...they make me feel better.

lol...when I have a domain about to expire at Godaddy they send me millions of emails reminding me to renew and also send shit in the mail reminding me to renew. Would be better if they sent me emails to remind me to transfer all of them to Namecheap

They also have a "hold" period, like one week after it expires. You can still renew the domain during this period without any extra fees.

Pay the $90 then move your domains elsewhere and never go back.

A few things. One is if you use multiple payment methods godaddy tries the last used payment method for each domain. So if a particular card or account was used on that name and it no longer is available then it wont get renewed automatically. (IE: paypal payment agreements which generally has limitations set as to how much can be billed and if that limit has been exceeded no renewal)

Also they start auctioning the domain the day it expires and redirect it to their parked page to show traffic counts to the prospective buyer. The auction lasts around 15 days or so and there's another 5 days grace and during this time you are allowed to renew the domain all the way up until the last day and the winning bidder doesn't get the name obviously.

Best bet is to check your accounts regularly where ever they are registered and pay attention to those notices..

are certain domain keywords ending up getting filtered by your mail program?

In before the Godaddy bitch fest really begins...

Now let's be completely forthright here. Godaddy is actually a nag when it comes to domain renewals. The first thing to check is your email filter and/or the email address on the godaddy account.

And if you have logged in to the GD interface sometime in the last 3-4 months you would have seen a notification that the domain and/or your means of renewal were/was expiring.

Also, I don't know if they do this with anyone else, but with any of my domains that has a fair bit of traffic or that I've owned for a few years, a rep always calls. (I don't have a special vip account or anything with them)

Something seems off here. Godaddy doesn't need your domain. Something fell through the cracks on your end. Especially on the part of not relying on Godaddy to remind you that your PAYSITE domain is about to expire. Set up a recurring reminder on your smartphone or PC if it's that important.

I agree completely with this. Godaddy send more than enough reminders and if you are not getting them, check the details you have on file with godaddy and then check your spam filters.

If you have a valuable domain and you don't renew it in due time you are asking for trouble. I have domains in 3 accounts over 2 different registrars (including godaddy) and every 15th of the month, I log into each and renew everything that is set to expire the following month, or within 90 days if it is one I really don't want to lose.

If a domain is a paysite you should be even more careful about not letting it expire I would have thought, and if it does and you are lucky enough to not lose it. Pay the fee and learn the lesson.

I've lost a few premium domains to godaddy pulling that shit. Funny I've noticed with worthless domains they bug the shit out of you to renew, but on a few domains that were worth something no emails whatsoever.

If it expired yesterday you should be able to renew it... if they are trying to charge you $80 you let it go too long expired. All their parking pages like that say domain for sale when a domain expires. Go pay for it lol

Fix your email, check your spam box. GoDaddy is almost at the harassment level when it comes to reminding you for the last 3 months. Then set up auto-renewals

As usual with these GoDaddy Sucks threads, the "victim" is leaving out vital info. Exactly what, I don't know. But the story doesn't jive with how GoDaddy works.

Expired domains aren't offered for auction until 25 days after expiration. Plus they suspend the domain right after expiration. So that site has been down for ages and you didn't even know it.

You can renew up until day 19 and still pay the regular renewal fee. After that it's $80.

Seems as though you don't know what's going on with your own sites and came here to vent and shift some blame to make yourself feel better.
