How do you stay motivated?

Without the need to earn money?

I'm finding it very hard recently to stay motivated. OK my health isn't good and I do sleep a lot. Walking the dog is about as much as I can manage physically, but actually working online takes little physically.

I cook, read, jigsaws, watch documentaries on the TV, check my daughters homework as we're not meant to help her and a few other things. In the spring and summer I will paint the house.

But I just can't get motivated to work. Have 2 E Books I could write and make money, could do the review site and even have a little part time job I do here from home. More for the fun than the money. I could turn it into a real business. But without the need to earn money, I just can't get going and stay going.

I always wondered why people like Dave Sullivan, David Gold and Paul Raymond stated motivated to work hard when they obviously had so much money and no need to work.

So if you don't have to work how do you stay motivated?

I'm going to watch TV. While you guys figure it out for me.

Making money, being my own boss and enjoying what I do...while at the same time, always thriving to succeed further and further. That's where my motivation comes from.

It's really quite simple. People like Sullivan and Gold, both of whom are wildly successful from a financial perspective, largely tend to be driven by things other than money. Despite all the shit you like to talk about how badass you are, a casual glance at your website indicates that you don't really care about the quality of your work. Had you been more focused on quality and less focused on a paycheck for all these years, you probably would have made less money overall, but would likely be making more money and be less bored today.

Adult is my hobby, it gives me something to do/keeps me occupied when I get bored so I never have a problem staying motivated...also the extra income is great because I can spend it on things I normally wouldn't want to buy.

Did you see the documentary Reggie shot of me? Fine if I'm sitting down doing nothing. Run out of steam very fast if I do anything.

I've been sleeping on the sofa since I posted the thread, was watching TV and just dropped off. Sleep 12-14 hours a day.

Not sure the work I have is any use to you. Get asked about custom content and pass it on to Madalton. Most of them are people looking for stuff so cheap or strange, it's not worth doing.

I think setting a goal helps. I technically don't need to work any more when I sold my main business and paid off my mortgage a couple of years ago. But when I see people who I think are less talented than me buying their second and third home, I get motivated to work harder.
I have set a 5 year goal for my self, I am in the second year of the 5 year goal. If you can set some goals, and a time limit for achieving the goal, it could help. Good luck

I watched a program on TV some years ago about ten aged and extremely wealthy people who were still active in their various fields. To a man all agreed that monetary gain had never been a driving interest in their lives. They all became active in their various fields because they had an interest in their fields and enjoyed the time they put into their work. That their endeavors made them wealthy was just a by product of their endeavors and had never been a goal...as witnessed by the fact that they were far beyond an age to retire and had the wealth to retire for many years past...but yet they remained active in their fields.

That would of been me at 45, later I decided to retire at 50. Then met Eva and she restarted me. So again at 55 it would describe me.

Now, I seem to have run out of steam.

If you don't need money anymore why don't you ride off into the sunset and enjoy life. Travel, volunteer and help less fortunate, sit on the beach all day and drink fruity drinks.

If you don't need money and you can't stay motivated what is the point of this thread?

I knew Sullivan and Raymond and Sullivan's motivation was power. He should of retired when he had the heart by pass. Still carries on. Raymond's was achievement. Both some of the cleverest guys I knew.

The rest is not worth answering, so here's my reply.

Maybe that's the key. I need to set myself some goals, plan my day in order of things to do and spend time on. Then knuckle down and do them. Used to do that when I was selling and managing. My desk had my tasks list in front of me, neatly typed out.

Thanks for the idea.

Thanks Paul. Hugs and kisses are always nice. The desire to fit in as another popular motivator.

I look at my income weekly and if it's on par to top last months profit I chill. If it appears to be coming up short then I bust ass to make sure I top it. Doesn't matter if I need it or not more of a game of trying to continually post higher profit numbers month after month.

Paul the symptoms you descibe could be a under the radar case of depression.

Many, many people are clinicaly depressed and do not even know it.

Depression can leave you exhausted, so all you want to do is sleep. with little or no motivation.

Even answering the phone can be a chore.

Of course a lot of it could be residual from your illness.

Not saying you are , just saying......Check into it

Wish you all the best.

Setting very specific, measurable, short and long term goals is one of the few things that have helped my motivation.

That certainly seems to be true of people who get very rich or famous. That powerful want of more seems to be the common thread among most everyone who is hugely successful financially. It comes at a very high price though; once you get that powerful desire for more and more, you're unsatisfied even with ten million dollars. People make twenty million because ten million wasn't enough, they were still hungry for more. It turns out twenty million isn't enough either, so they live their lives hungry, never satisfied, never having enough. They only appear rich from the outside, but don't feel it. They also normally miss out on things that are vastly more satisfying than money. It's a high price to pay.

For me, I'd rather set clearly achievable goals to be financially sound, enough to comfortably pay the mortgage on a modest home and then enjoy the peace of mind and sense of achievement.

Well, I had all that planned. Then Eva walked into my life and turned my life around. Married, went to Czech, family. So riding off into the sunset isn't and option.

Need to get my motivation back to work on my E books and review site. Just as a hobby. Still need to be motivated, even if it's only a hobby. Might take up photography when the weather turns. So everyone can expect more pics of the dog.

Perhaps if you don't really need the money, think about a higher goal. For me, it's helping young people who want to get off and alcohol and drugs. Other people become passionate about other causes. Try some things on for size and see what gets you juiced up. You may not know right now which cause will fire you up, but I very you can find one. Put some energy and some money into whatever ignites some passion in you. Think about what you could do to help ________ if you had $100,000 to spend, or if you spent 10 hours per week working for the thing you believe in.

I still need something to do. Ray's idea is good. So long as it doesn't require a lot of work. Last week was a bad one for me, caught a cold and it knocked me out.

I have started to map out my day and will be doing things soon. Today!!

I guess the problem is you don't need the money as you've retired.

Maybe find another hobby instead of porn?

I'm sure schools will need people to help with reading, that wouldn't be too strenuous and be very rewarding.

Or any local charity always needs volunteers. A dog rescue place maybe?

Find something that makes you smile instead of getting annoyed by idiots in porn!

True, never thought money did drive me. Now I find I was wrong.

Have them already.

I'm sure schools will need people to help with reading, that wouldn't be too strenuous and be very rewarding.
Problem with that is I can't be relied upon. I get days where I am so tired I sleep a lot. Sure the kids wouldn't like that. I could charge adults, who are more driven than most kids, to just sit with me and talk and then I can correct their grammar, as crazy as that sounds. Again I have days when I just can't do it. Had a cold last week and that knocked me out. So relying on me isn't good.

Trip into Brno, with the dog????? No don't think so.

Now I can sit back and relax about it all, they don't annoy me. Watching our friend over on B&B do his site was more amusing than annoying. Watching people gripe about SOPA is even more amusing. Knowing they don't have a chance of being listened to, by those with power.

I spend very little time online, check me post frequency to see the times I'm at the computer.

Mind you, I have to burn a 1 Terra byte drive now. The lousy ad, made a sale tonight.

No I have the solution, plan the day and stick to the plan. Tomorrow.

Rise 8.00ish
Coffee, snack and TV till 9.00
Check the transfer to the hard drive.
Check, emails sites and boards.
Take dog for a walk.
Breakfast.
Rest.
Check the transfer to the hard drive.
Check, emails sites and boards
Cooking and dinner.
Jigsaw or reading and TV
Check the transfer to the hard drive.
Check, emails sites and boards.
Check homework
Welcome Eva home.
Take the rest of the day off, as I deserve it.
Check, emails sites and boards.

Well that's the plan.

Mediation is good advice.

420 can do that too.

And be happy for all the peaks and successes you've had...

I dont think its an issue of you not being motivated, but your missing the drive. Have you talked to your doctor about testosterone levels and had them checked?

Paul is this not just due to winter? It's natural to be more tired and sleep more during winter. And at least you can sleep, I'm often tired and cannot sleep, that's horrible. Anyway if you're tired physically, nothing can motivate you, you need to get rid of the physical tiredness first. So sleep as much as you can, till you start to feel better.
