Adult to Mainstream resume advice...

hi,

I'm in the process of rewriting my resume and could use some advice..

Example scenario:

Lets say I live in Florida and successfully promoted Pussycash from 2008 to 2011.
And sent me paychecks and tax docs with their "parent" company info which is:

Sobonito Investments Limited in Miami Florida

------------------------------------------------------

so instead of using "Freelance" or "Self Employed" for my Job Title in the Resumes "EXPERIENCE" section &
since the paychecks and tax docs are labeled: Sobonito Investments Limited,

any advice on if I were to tailor my resume to read something like the snippet below:

-----------------------------------------------------

EXPERIENCE:

Online Marketing Manager
Sobonito Investments Limited, Miami, FL. (2008 - 2011)

- Created marketing campaigns blah blah blah
- Increased revenue by blah blah blah
- etc... etc...

-----------------------------------------------------

I would be grateful for any advice.

thank you.

Those qualifications would work well in the fast food industry, is that the industry you're moving towards?

So Mr. rage3 who can we call as reference at Sobonito? Who was your direct supervisor?

Unless you are a great liar I'd stay far away from making false or deceptive claims.

You are selling yourself as a marketing manager for an investment firm. When in reality you induced guys with their cocks in their hands to buy masturbation material. Go for it I don't see a problem.

oh and Rothstein, I've never promoted Pussycash and this is why I used them for my example because I did think about the Google thing before I posted.

Any company who checks into your resume will smell that bullshit a mile away. It also would not be difficult to look into the parent company and find it's porn related.

Working as an affiliate is an independent kind of thing, not a verifiable employment history. Stick with self employed and make up a bunch of shit they can never really check into.

Do I want to post that I've been producing "porn" or something more along the lines of "product photography"? I'll stick with product photography and Internet Marketing. No need for them to know that naked girls were the products.

Googled "Sobonito Investments Limited in Miami Florida"

Very first result was this .....

"Sobonito Investments (hereafter, Sobonito), which is incorporated in Limassol, Cyprus, runs a website at imlive.com. It?s not the content this website has that we complain about. But it?s the way they have attempted to obtain visitors to their website. Several days ago, an associate of Sobonito attempted to post comments with plenty of hyperlinks to hometown.aol.com free webpages, at which visitors would be redirected to imlive.com.

Well, Sobonito was sued by U.S. Federal Trade Commission back in 2005. And the company settled for use of ?affiliates to advertise its Web sites and induce consumers to purchase the adult content,? according to FTC. But criminals never quit until they eventually end up in jail."

MacHouse encourages other WordPress blog webmasters to join the force to file a complaint with FTC against Sobonito. The complaint form is available at FTC?s website.

That would be the right thing to do but its easy to bullshit if you want. Give them your buddys phone number and have him talk it up for you. I know people that do it.

I once read an article somewhere that online companies can appreciate the skills of someone that previously worked in adult, but wants nothing to do with someone that currently works in adult.

In other words, if it's a cool, progressive company, be honest about your past and talk of how your experience online will help them achieve their goals.

Like everyone said, they will find out its porn related in minutes. Plus what will they say if they want to talk to your previous employer?

Just straight up lie

If your looking for a job in marketing, tell them you started a marketing agency and was very successful from 2008 to recently, then decided to split ways with your partner in the company and seek something full time.

The magic phrase is "the consulting world is not for me." this will reassure your potential employer your not going to try and run a side business while working for them or moonlight a business that will interfere with your daily job.

Have you done ANY non-adult stuff? If so, you can say you did marketing for many companies including _______ and ______. By mainstream I mean actual mainstream, not the BS that passes for mainstream on GFY. Viagra and illegal gambling isn't mainstream.

When I speak to mainstream clients, I mention the work we've done for Coca-Cola, Merril Lynch, and the US Postal Service. Often I'll also mention Girls Gone Wild in a nod to what our major market is, partly in case they check into us. If they are going to find out anyway, better that I didn't totally try to hide the fact that some of our clients do adult, but I focus on the big name mainstream clients when taking to mainstream people.

If anyone reading this hasn't done any mainstream work, this is one small reason to do a little bit. If you're an affiliate, sign up with Amazon and do your thing promoting a certain niche of book or video. It gives you a respectable and true answer when someone asks what you do, in case you ever need it.

That's also one reason I'm involved with Apache and Linux development and with setting web standards. If I ever sell the company to Ali or whatever and want to work mainstream, Google will find my name all over the LVM-devel mailing list, Linux RAID devel, apache-modules-devel, on public vulnerability reports, etc. As far as Google is concerned, I'm an active open source developer and security professional.

rage3; If you staying in porn, then disclose to them the truth, however, if you are transitioning to mainstream, than you may not want to put down on the resume or cover letter regarding the porn. (Unless they ask) Just write down your experience and what you have accomplished.

I would focus on skills and areas of expertise....

...Oh, and I would suggest using less "blah, blah blah"s and etc, etc...s in your resume. Perhaps substituting them for more specific info would be good.

This isn't resume advice exactly, but there is such a thing as adult entertainment and marketing for it. Pornography is a bad word that is used too much by people in the adult industry. It's a post-judgement word, if you will. We are in the field of adult entertainment, and it's a legitimate job sector. IMHO it's bad to use the word "porn" because it's a casual word among friends. Use adult sector or something similar and dont be ashamed of it. If you sold bra's and panties, you'd say womens undergarments and wouldnt worry about someone judging it.

Some more quick tips:

Use action verbs and always lead the reader to objectives you achieved.

Writing a good resume is like writing good website copy-you have to inform AND sell.

You have to quickly convince the reader to put your resume on the follow up pile instead of the rejection pile.

Be upfront but professional about it. You don't have to straight out tell them "I peddled porno" but you can simply tell them you marketed "adult entertainment". It's kind of like the difference between politely excusing yourself to use the restroom and loudly announcing "I have to go take a shit!". Just keep it professional. You want them to think "This guy seems like a real pro" not "this guy seems like a real sleazeball".

Due of the shitty adult situation, 50% webmasters quit adult and started working in real life.

I'm sure people can give you some advice. You are not the first to add your adult experience to a CV.

Due to the laziness of GFY trolls 95% of them quit spending 10 hours a week submitting TGPs and are now jerking off and smoking weed full time.
