Use no follow on out going links, but don't use no follow on out going links, that looks like you're hideing something.

Link to other related sites, but don't link to other sites, that will hurt your ranking.

Have good internal linking, but not too good, that looks like you know what you are doing.

Use good descriptions on your images and alt tags, but don't do that because it will look like you are trying to rank well for that term.

Have other related sites link to you, but don't do that, it will look like you know what you are doing and you will get a penalty.

Frustrating, isn't it. It's kind of supposed to be. What we so often forget when we focus on SEO is WHY we do SEO. It's so people, humans, will get to the page and buy. The real purpose of the site is to appeal to humans. The SEO part is just to get more humans there. As it turns out, the SE is also trying to find pages that appeal to humans.

Anther tool to use in your SEO is google itself.
Type your specific keyword into google and look at the top results.
Try and mimic the outstanding SEO those sites use to get the top rankings. These top ranking sites should all be original content with outstanding user experience. That should be your objective.

But don't bother, all top results will be the big tube sites with no relevant text of SEO.

One of my key terms has a situation where results 4 - 10 are all scraper tubes using the same script, from the same company and all interlinked to one another. You can't tell me this is what Google had in mind with Google Penguin.

Yes. This is a perfect example of hard work and SEO.
You can see the original content but not too much and the use of keywords is perfect.
This site should be your example to try and duplictae. They are doing everything correct and you should be too. Learn from their example.

I dunno. Some big tubes have tons of relevant original text, and moreover have tons of inbound links and such from people using their content and linking back from video pages. Plus people will hang out on them watching videos for hours or however long it takes them to finish their .. research.

You can hardly find an ad for good old paysites anymore, can you? If you can, it's down below the organic results rather than up top or to the right. That hurts a lot and helps a lot at the same time, to keep with the theme.
