:mad Sponsors you are not doing affiliates a favour by letting us promote you...

So I sign up for a couple progs today, the first tells me they 'may' approve me within 48 hours. That was annoying enough.

The next one I signed up for - It was a NAT4 prog so should be ez.

I finish the sign up and I get a message - On the post-sign up screen, not an email - telling me I have to contact them so they will consider my account. Why did I just fill in the form? That was me contacting you!!

They can both fuck off!

I hate Sunday mornings!!!

There is a considerable amount of cheaters among affiliates - maybe that is the idea behind this.

Affiliate programs are starting to lock down access to their content (like the old days).

Many are also pre-screening affiliates. Which again, is not new. That was how it used to be with many (not all) programs. You had to show what you owned, and who you were, in the industry before they would grant you access.

It would be nice to see all affiliate programs go back to this model, as well as streaming only membership areas. Although the genie is now out of the bottle. Going to be a fight to get companies on the downswing to do much of anything.

Indeed - all your points are making sense and would eventually lead to an ideal market. However these can only be achived if everyone start to do like this at the same time, otherwise, both members / cutomers and affiliates will abandon the "rebels" which will lead to the "rebels" bankrupt

Whats the point? - Remember its Sunday morning here, so be gentle with me.

Are you worried that it is just another way for surfers to access content?

If they are wise enough to sign as an affiliate they will not be handing over their CC any time soon to buy any porn.

If I ask for access to a members area as an affiliate then yes, I can see why they need to be careful. All I want is a link code and a banner or 2....

The problem is fraud. Scammers finding programs that they can get a payout or two out of before getting banned, and then signing up over and over with slightly different information. If you are serious about making decent, regular payouts then it is pretty dangerous to have accounts activated without any prior review.

The point is typically fraud protection.

I review accounts every morning, first thing, minus weekends. I would say that between 25-33% of the people that apply for accounts, do not list a website that they own, even though we require it. When this happens, I automatically deny, but an e-mail explanation to me will usually get your account approved.

Now you ask, why is it a problem if the user does not list a website? First off, it means they can't follow directions. Please follow directions. Second, it means they may or may not have a website, and don't want to show me it if they do. Why do they not want to show me their website? Third, it means they want to run a quick pump and dump. Why is this a problem? Explained below.

Let's say that we completely opened up account approvals. No moderation required. A chatter, virus, etc affiliate signs up on Friday night. They know it's the weekend, most likely nobody is watching the source of joins too close. This affiliate then has a several day window to blast. A good chatter could easily send 50+ joins daily until they get caught, if they get caught. They might get caught nine times out of 10, but that one time they do not get caught by ABC Program, they could make out like a bandit.

Again you wonder, why is this a problem? Just don't pay them? Sure, they won't get paid. But who is going to pay for the chargebacks and all of the other BS associated with fraud and bad joins? We do.

It's simply not worth the risk. We're talking about a 48 hour window here. Have some patience. As an affiliate, you should want to work with affiliate programs that do their due diligence. It will help them stay alive longer and continue paying you throughout the years.

Thanks - I understand...

On my side its a just little frustrating - I often wake up with an idea and I think to myself "Yep, I know the perfect sponsor with the perfect content - I just need to sign up and...".

Then thats the end of it, 48 hours later I have forgotten all about it.

Anyone thought of an affiliate 'White List' to share amongst programs? It could be managed by a 3rd party so you would not have to share your own data between each other.

If you forgot about your idea 48 hours later, was it that good of an idea? :-)

Write down your stellar ideas. You can start carrying through your ideas, even without links and content. Get the framework set up. Monday rolls around, you get approved, everything is ready to roll and you can blast right away.
