Own a paysite vs. promoting one!
Can you really make more cash by promoting and give up 50%?

If you own a paysite, you give up 50% to your affiliates. If you are an affiliate, you only get 50%.
You make the most money, I think, by doing both. If you own paysites and only promote your own stuff, that is not only kind of not nice, but you are leaving money on the table.

If you own a site you can make money off of other people's hard work. As an affiliate you can only make money on your own efforts.
But, it's an investment, and even if you make the investment your sites may suck. You can literally be an affiliate without spending a dime. |

Owning your own site and shooting original content is infinitely more enjoyable (aside from the $$$ aspect) than merely promoting someone else's.
It comes down to your goals. Do you simply want to make some coin...or have some fun and enjoyment along the way. Sure, shoots can be a lot of work and headache at times, but I'd take that anyday over simple affiliate promotion. |

On the other side, of my question, you are clueless, have you ever considered your own members, that you may have generated to your own program? |

One thing for sure, promoting programs that stop paying you sucks... have had a lot of that lately. I'm starting my own paysite just to know I'll be paid (as long as the biller doesn't go down...)

Owning a paysite is much more profitable from my experience. You control all facets of the operation.
Organic traffic to your own paysite is... *huge*. And if you do shoot your own content and enjoy it, well, another bonus. |

Investment required to be an affiliate = Very low.
Investment required to be an sponsor = High to very high. Besides the different level in skills required to be a site owner, it needs up front money. |

What part of you leave money on the table if you do not do both are you confused by? Of course, my company has its own traffic which sells SpookyCash sites. Also upsell other sites as an affiliate. If your point is that SpookyCash gets 100% of the dough on direct sales, that is a silly point. The roughly 7,000 people who have promoted SpookyCash sites over the years have made it far bigger than would have been done without affiliates. I love my affiliates and I only wish that the current economy allowed more people to do affiliate work. I hope the programs I promote like what I do for them too. So, I guess your main point is that you are turned on by the pic of me in my avatar, so you aren't getting enough blood flow to your brain, correct? If you have some actual useful business point you are just making opaquely, please feel free to clarify.

Like you get to keep 100% anyway. Think of the time you can spend promoting by not designing/converting/emailing and all the other boring stuff.
You could ofcourse do both as well.

Only you can determine the risk vs. reward. It's nowhere near as simple as your statement implies.

yup- like Dave says, do both!
My own business model is that I haven't had to pay for content upfront, or pay to shoot my own and develop a library that way. I simply market other producers back catalogue content and pay them 50% of the sites net profits. So to that end, Pauls not quite right- you don't *NEED* to spend big to own a site and program. Of course on my current business model, I'll never make a fortune, becasue I'll never keep a bigger slice of the pie, but then I didn't have any $$$ to put in to start with other than my own sweat equity. My next step (once I've cleared up the half-finished jobs) is to migrate to shooting my own content too, so if there's any investors reading, please feel free to drop me a line! 8) So etik, If you've got no $$$ to put in, put effort in instead. It will pay off if you're good, and it won't if you suck. rant/ramble over... off for a brew and m'bed |

Depends on the site you are promoting but if it is original, exclusive and expensive to produce like ours, 50% is a very good deal, without the costs of production, design and hosting.

Less overhead and moving parts promoting than owning. Rather important
