The Avengers salary

wow!!!!

Robert Downey Jr. is prone to making mathematical gestures on the red carpet, but he's going to need more than ten fingers to sift through his payout from "Marvel's The Avengers." According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 47-year-old actor stands to make about $50 million from the film.

Downey's "Avengers" co-stars stand to make a fraction of his earnings, in part because of a savvy deal the "Iron Man" lead reportedly renegotiated, under which he would receive a portion of Marvel's revenue from any future film in which he plays Tony Stark. He allegedly rejiggered the deal when the first "Iron Man" film dialed up $585 million in 2008.

Though Downey's deal is not unheard of for the rarefied circle of Hollywood's biggest names, it's a great deal more than any of his "Avengers" cohorts. Sources say Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Jeremy Renner and Mark Ruffalo will each ultimately make $2 million to $3 million from the film.

Marvel has a history of cutting sharp deals. Terrence Howard, who starred with Downey Jr. in the first "Iron Man" film, was reportedly faced with a 50 to 80 percent pay cut for the sequel after the studio learned director Jon Favreau planned to limit his role. Howard's agents smarted, and though it's unknown if he walked out or if Marvel decided to go a different direction, Don Cheadle replaced Howard for the sequel.

"The Avengers" continues to smash through box office records and recently surpassed the $1 billion mark in global earnings, so the $50 million payout is unlikely to put a big dent in Marvel's balance sheet. The film is currently making "Avatar"-type money, a big relief to Disney, which bought Marvel and desperately needed a hit after the crippling loss it suffered on "John Carter."

didnt see it in here samuel jackson earned 5 million

What is interesting to me is that comics are and have been on a steep decline from their various heydays. But the folks creating them are making more money than ever before by making them into major blockbuster movies. Over and over again. Can't wait to see who this generation thinks is worthy of playing Superman.

It is the same guy who played him in the first Hulk film. The actor changed for the second one.

Terrence Howard made more than Downey in the first iron, which is why he was replaced in the sequel. I think he got Downey the Iron Man part as well

Robert Downey Junior is stronger than any of the other actors. I would have went to, and enjoyed, the movie either way, but Robert Downey Junior was a big reason. Ironman is one of my favorite movies, the second one was ass.

Franchise reboot. Sam Raimi wasn't interested in writing/directing any more Spiderman films after the last three, Toby Maguire didn't care to be in anymore. (Like how the upcoming Batman is said to be the last with the current director and actor.)

They're going back to Peter Parker being in high school again and essentially starting over, but taking the story on a different arc, so hence the villain being Lizard and it looks at those there will be more back story on Peter's parents.

Not sure why Hulk changed from the Hulk movie to Avengers, I guess Ed Norton didn't want to be in Avengers, or they didn't want him.

No it's not. "Hulk" (2003) had Eric Bana has Bruce Banner/Hulk. "The Incredible Hulk" (2008) had Edward Norton as Banner/Hulk. The Avengers has Mark Ruffalo as Banner/Hulk.

The others need to pay their dues before they can make that much. They're easily replaceable, but there's only one Robert Downey JR.

I don't think actors deserve to make as much he's making, but he definitely deserves more money than the other stars.

Without Iron Man being so good the rest wouldn't have done as well. So, well done to his contract negotiating team.

I didn't bother to do the research for my post above.

Honestly, I liked Mark Ruffalo in the role better than Norton.

It was one of the very few Norton performances I didn't enjoy from him.
