"The true average cost of Extra Virgin Olive Oil is $35" - For how much?

It cant be anywhere near that, even when its imported to the US - Unless he talking about price per gallon.

Hope so, particularly interested in the 'organic' and 'local' tags. I know Whole Foods has been in the news a few times for misleading labels...

Real "extra virgin" olive oil is not cheap. Most of the crap at the store would be more appropriately called olive flavored oil.

It must be way overpriced in the US - We have good quality oil here and assuming they are talking per litre it is 1/4 the price they are quoting.

The simple test to see if the olive olive you bought is legit is by putting it on the fridge for a few hours. If you see that the contents inside is still liquid, then you just bought quality oil. But if it turned into lard, then all that money you just paid for has been wasted.

Years ago i visited Taormina Sicily while there i ate some of Italy's best food. The cost for a bottle of real virgin olive oil was around 25 pounds or $37.00 so i'm sure its more than $50 a pint now.
I doubt people in the USA would buy real EVOO as it has lots of sediment in the bottom of each bottle, a result of the first pressing and a necessary part of the flavor...

Anyone wanting to visit Italy should consider Taormina its a beautiful coastal village with great restaurants and architecture.

You have that backwards - Good olive oil will solidify - Adulterated will not....

There's an olive grove 13 miles from my house.

Screw Italy, buy local.

Google a pic of real Wagyu Kobe beef. It's absurd and nothing like what you can buy here.

I get the kobe beef.

But all Spanish, Greek, French etc Olive Oils are garbage because they don't ship their entire stock to Italy for inspection? Please.

One thing I have noticed lately is the excess amounts of "premium" alcohols, like everyone who ever made cheap liquor needs their own line of fancy shit now.

All it seems to take is a few million to get celebrity endorsements and have it mentioned in a few songs and suddenly everybody orders it.

I had heard about the Kobe Beef from a friend of mine who is the head chef at Benihana for Texas. Even the Kobe Steakhouse here in Dallas will tell you if you ask them where it is sourced from LOL

American restaurants, butchers, and groceries
can label just about any cut of beef Kobe without telling you
what it actually is.

------

In the U.S. any sparkling white wine can be sold as Champagne.

------

American companies are not obliged to adhere to these standards

------

Most extra virgin olive oils in the U.S. blend a small portion of
quality oil with lower-grade products.
Hmm. I'm sensing a theme here.
