How to get a .com domain that's not being used

And the owner does not reply to e-mail. Any chance? Where do I go? It's a mainstream name btw.

I wanted a certain dot com and the guy never replied to emails. I kept trying every month and finally he replied about 8 months later.

He had his email setup to forward from that domain but it never worked until he was expecting an email.

So you can try that or hire an agent to get the domain. If they are ignoring emails they might think you are not serious. If an email comes from GoDaddy or Sedo then they might wake the fuck up.

How good is the domain name? If it's really good, he's probably used to getting inquiries from people who want him to just give it to them since he isn't "using it." He's likely used to most people offering $50 or less.

You have to make it apparent in your contact that you are not one of those people.

He probably thinks the email you sent was an attempt by a spammer to verify the email address. Spammers do it all the time. They email domain owners and if they get a reply, they add the address to their spam list.

If you put an offer in the email, its probably to low. Most people, when selling domains are morons and think their domain is worth 1000x what it really is.

On the same side, I never reply to ignorant emails. I just got one over the weekend for a domain and the message subject had my domain name and the body of the email said "$$?"

I've contacted a number of people to buy domains and NEVER tell them what I want to pay, they always tell me, then I come back with a realistic figure. If its to high, I reply with "I'm not going to even make you an offer because what I believe the domain is worth and what you think its worth are on to opposite sides of the scale, but thank you for your response."

I just did this a few weeks ago for a domain. Guy wanted $2000 and ended up buying it from him for $100

LOL.

"14 만달러를 제공하고 싶습니다" --> You just offered him $140,000

Do you have a phone number for the guy? If the phone number starts with 010 (or 019 or maybe some other 3-digit combo that starts with 0) then maybe you could try contacting him via Kakao Talk on iPhone or Android. I swear, like 99.99% of all Koreans have Kakao Talk installed on their smart phones.

My Korean is pretty terrible, but if you really need a hand I could try to lend one. No promises though. Email me at digitalempire11 =at= gmail if you'd like me to try.

HEY NOW... easy there!!

FYI, dog meat isn't eaten in Korea like Americans eat steaks. Most younger people have no interest in it as they find the idea disgusting. Older people will eat it the same way older people in America are somehow turned on by liver & onions. Gross. I believe there will come a day when the dog meat business in Korea just withers away. Here's to hoping, anyway.

(the girl's sign below says "please don't eat my friends")

We have about 1500 unused domains here and there are several "sell me that domain" mails per week.

The rules for a non reply are very simple:

1 ) No offer in the mail = no reply
2 ) Ridiculous offer ($20 or $50) = no reply
3 ) A stupid mail like "Hey, what to sell? how much?" = no reply
4 ) No info about the buyer = no reply

These are made just to avoid useless waste of time.

Try sending a mail like this and you will probably get a reply relatively fast. If you get no reply, then send a mail offering $150k for the domain. You will see immediately if your mails go to the trash or your initial offer is just denied.

"Hello,

My name is X and I represent company Y. I am interested in purchasing example.com domain. At the moment would be happy to offer $123 for it.
Please, make me know if you are interested in selling it.

Regards
X"

Expect for #2 that's ridiculous... you don't need to know the buyers life story in order to sell him/her a domain. So if there person is from Google you jack the price up to $1mil and if the person isn't representing a company you'll sell for $100? so that's what you're basically getting at.

Reminded me of a time when I was hired as a National Sales Manager by a Japanese company. One of the first things I noticed (and this was 15+ years ago) was that their US domain was a .net domain.

It turned out that someone cybersquatted on the .com domain, since the company only initially registered a .jp domain (.jp = Japan), and he was asking them for over a million dollars for the name (an offer they seriously considered at one point).

I went ahead and contacted the guy, not telling him I was with the Japanese company, and I was able to purchase the domain for $5,000 (using company money), which instantly made me a hero to my employer.

The requirement to know who we sell our domains to is that we don't sell domains or sites to our direct competition. It has nothing to do with the price, just common sense business practices.

Just an example... some time ago a well known adult sponsor approached us to buy one domain. They offered much more than a fair price for it. Since they didn't want to identify themselves the deal was ignored... the domain is still parked if I don't mistake. It's a very similar domain to one of their paysites domains.
In this case the deal was completely ignored not because of the price but because the buyer didn't want to identify themselves as XYZ company. If they did so, they would have got the domain for the price they offered to pay for it... even they could have got it for half of that money.

Call and leave a message in addition to the emails. I tend not to take email offers very seriously unless I know who the person making the offer is already. A personal phone call shows you are serious. Make it a decent offer and keep any message brief and professional.

you either increase your offer to get his attention, or you wait for it to expire and bid on it at auction.

I generally do the same. One time I did respond to a $50 offer and shot back $7500 thinking never to hear from them again and it did sell so your #2 I have lightened up on a little bit over the years

Yeah - email is cheap to send, never hurts to fire one back. It would be worth having a form letter ready to respond to the not serious sounding people.
