Moving everything to a new laptop is surely annoying...

but having a new laptop is great - especially this one.

looks, feel and specs of a Macbook Pro for half the price

well - i used to work as sound engineer on live concerts, i do have a different understanding of "bass" than they do

but the best laptop sound i ever had so far. you can actually use it to listen to music and watching a movie should also work fine.

Why waste time?

If you had a Mac, just use Carbon Copy and BOOM! transfers everything. No Fucking around for hours or days to get a new laptop set up like the old one.
Macs might be pricey, but all that free service at the Apple store is makes it worth it. Walk into a MicroCenter or Best Buyshit and see how much they charge just to talk to you.

As someone that has moved computers many times, Dropbox has essentially been an invaluable tool for me in transitions, and ongoing between laptops and desktops . If you are not using it then you are missing out. I have moved my entire documents folder there and pile in as much as I can. As I earned more and move free space I piled in pictures and everything else. On the new computer all you have to do is install the software and login, then bam, your stuff starts downloading and remains sync'd even if you use a laptop and a desktop. For email I use IMAP so my mail is everywhere too.

Shamelessly dropping a referral link here for Dropbox. I will get free storage and you will actually get free additional storage too I believe. http://db.tt/fJUc1wS

...or you could have just admitted you can't afford a macbook pro. You did just sell your porsche, right?
It's a worse time than ever to be a content producer....

Just screwing with ya!

Yes the Samsung is a more rational choice.

and all kidding aside: when i had my Macbook it was nothing but trouble to fit in in my network - which is a Windows domain network. later i was running it on Windows only but then the screen died.

Just switched from my Macbook Pro to the latest Macbook air. Took me less than an hour to be totally setup and running 100% like it was on my old Macbook pro. I have most of my stuff in the cloud so the few apps that I use just synced to my Air and installation took less than 15 mins. All folders I work in are synced on Google Drive so they synced to my new computer automatically. Google chrome even syncs your bookmarks and url history etc. so you don't even notice that you are working on another computer (except the faster speed of course).

Nothing wrong with Samsung though. My latest laptop before my first Macbook was a Samsung and it's still running great after all these years. I still use it to check how sites look in IE on windows etc.

But I could never move back to non-mac though. The difference is so big. It really is so much better to work on than anything else. It has nothing to do with being a Apple fanboy (I hate iPhone for example) and for many years I used to be a guy that always setup and upgraded my computers with just buying parts from the computer shops etc. But the Mac just beats everything. And then people say, but you can get a PC with better specs for less, of course you can, but it never beats the experience and speed etc of a mac, especially when you run windows on the pc.

That's what I've slowly converted into, except running some applications that are heavy of course.

If your time is valuable (probably is) the best investment is a really good Solid State Hard Drive. Nothing is fast enough until it is instant.

I feel the same way. I don't have anything against Windows or Windows users in the least. As a matter of fact I feel that a computer is a highly personal tool, hence the term PERSONAL Computer, and should be used as such. The right tool that make you more efficient. Most of the people that try Mac and hate it or doen't realize the difference, in most cases, haven't given it a proper chance or learned how to be more efficient with it. When I converted to Mac I was very frustrated for about a week since things are named differently and I was a 15 year PC user. After a little while I soon realized why the fanfare.

Well, if you mean that in terms of moving your data solely into someones hands then I don't think you have anything to worry about. All the data resides locally and only a copy of the contents of the Dropbox folder is sync'd out to Dropbox. This makes it so you have a real-time backup that can be accessed easily on any of your other computers or devices.

If your statement means someone else having a copy of your data, then just realize all data is stored encrypted on Amazon S3 via Dropbox. Your surfing data that is not secured can be seen by Google. Your e-mai can be read by your email provider at any time is also likely not secured too. Once you connect a computer to a public network there shouldn't be a lot of expectation for data privacy. =)
