My computer does not boot up- black screen

The last few days my desktop computer does not boot up and just shows me a black screen. : (

Today i removed the battery for 20 minutes, and set it back in and now i still get the black screen and my computer now will not turn off while holding the power button down. I have to unplug the machine.

I have tried to boot up with the recovery disks and nothing.

Before the black screen problem started ,it would boot to my BIOS screen and i would have to hit F1 to continue to windows and it worked, but now im stuckon a black screen.

Please help.

I'm not really answering your questions here but the oddest things happen with computers.

On a 3 hour business trip I decided to wipe a hard drive disk with a laptop using the battery (well those programs usually assume you have it plugged in). Driving makes you forget about things and the computer browned out (juice in battery but not enough to power). When trying to go over some business and by plugging in my computer it would just not start. Nothing could be done. I called IBM to troubleshoot (thinkpad Lenova) and they would through checks and eventually said new motherboard. After tinkering with it some more and disconnecting and reconnecting some pins the thing started right back up.

Every time there was a problem the thing would have to be unplugged, battery removed and then unconnect all the pins and then reconnect and then it'd start right up. Very hard to diagnose but some with capacitive build up of some kind.

Don't buy IBM lenovas, at least nothing pre-2007.

Maybe this will help

Also, I've got an Acer (desktop) and the power went out in my town twice for 30-60 second periods a month ago within 5 minutes of each other. My computer shut down while working and then was shut off while booting up. After the 2nd time it simply would not boot up at all. I had to do a complete restore off a backup on an external hard drive.
Unfortunately you may have to do the same, recovery only does so much.

If it has a video card, try plugging the monitor into the on board video and see if anything happens.

My brother has an Acer Aspire that had the same problem. In his case it ended up being the motherboard.

Try these:

1. disconnect/connect your Hard Disk
try to start up again.

if it fails,

2. disconnect/connect memory
try to start up again.

3. try to clean the inside for accumulated dust or dirt.

It happened to my laptop few days ago and at least one of these solutions will solve your problem.

If it still fails, GFY!

Are your files backed up? If not, I'd start by getting an external drive bay, pop in the hard disk and copy the files to another drive / computer.

Without testing, it can possibly be a bad cpu fan, bad power supply, bad hard drive, bad memory, bad motherboard, or bad video card and/or drivers.

Could very well be dirty fan. Try the easiest first and clean the fan and computer. Just use a hose on a vacuum.

I'm guessing one of those little disk shaped batteries on the motherboard. (CMOS)

I recently vacuumed about 2 inches of dust off of one of my computers..

I had a similar problem and used alt + f10 to factory restore my acer. luckily I learned a long time ago to back up my shit to an external storage device
