"Quid" is just slang for "pound" (money, not weight). We also used the word "nicker" in London for "pound".
BTW, and apropos of nothing, one of my favorite English sayings is: "He's as bent as a nine bob note", which means that the person being referred to is gay. |

£1 = quid, nicker, cherry (cherry picker, nicker), nugget, sov £5 = fiver, jacks (alive, five), lady godiva, bluey £10 = tenner, cock and hen £20 = score £25 = pony £50 = nifty, half a ton £100 = oner, long 'un, ton £200 = deuce £500 = monkey £1000 = carpet roll, grand There are more but mostly newer ones, the above is pretty much the long-standing 'staple' slang terms, including some cockney rhyming slang. |
