Been to Chick-fil-A today?

Might want to save it for another day if trying for the first time.

I passed by one in Hollywood about an hour ago. Bunch of news trucks there and people holding signs. Huge crowd there but also lots of people buying food. Drive thru's were packed all the way down the street.....

As I was walking out a guy reading a Bible said, "I hope they are getting more business than normal."

I told him I don't eat the stuff, so can't be sure, but it seems like it. He said he never had before but would now.

Talk about stupid; you are assuming they are all there to protest gays. I know for a fact that is not the case.

The Chik-fil-a's in Columbia and Annapolis, MD are like that every day at lunch. They send someone through the drive-thru cars to take orders and radio them in so things move quicker.

Those two locations know how to move people though. Even with lines like that the longest you'd wait was 6 or 7 minutes.

Interesting fact: Chik-fil-a has the highest per-store revenue of any fast food restaurant. It beats McDonald's and everything else.

As I walked over I passed by a guy that was eating in his truck. He said he waited 40 minutes today. I imagine the wait got longer before it got shorter.

I wonder the odds of having to close early because they sell out.

I prefer El Pollo Loco myself, they went out of business by me. The thing about this thing that makes me crazy, people keep talking about freedom of speech. We are standing up for the owners freedom of speech. Freedom of speech protects you from the gov throwing you in jail for speaking out. Not for people not going to have chicken.

If people only knew what crazy shit a lot of other CEOs do and their true values...
(Adult parties that I go to are full of CEOs, doctors, lawyers, etc. and easily make the Chick-Fil-A guy seem irrelevant)..

I don't know why they replaced our El Pollo Loco with a Chick-fil-A. EPL always had a lot of business . . . . probably not as much as CFA, but still. I'll eat grilled chicken, I would eat deep fried processed meat. I really went there for the churros.

I "think" the issue [to some] is that he believes in traditional marriage and donates his money to groups that think the same way.

I wonder if he funded groups to make divorce illegal which would protect traditional marriage more. Would there be lines around the block supporting them.

The problem is that religion is taken way too seriously, even though we're supposed to separate church and state..

It probably wouldn't be as big an issue if he'd only donated his own money, but he donated corporate funds to support an anti-gay agenda.

Are there groups like that? I would guess they would support him if there was some group that was against them.

Evangelicals have the highest divorce rates of all religions in the US 34%. Now I really dont care about his opinion one way or another but when they talk about being against gay marriage because marriage is sacred and keeping it traditional and the bible says etc etc. Then to me if marriage is so special and blessed by God, the first move would be to make divorce illegal. But there wouldn't be big support for that like picking on the gays.

By the way...I'm 100% pro-gay-marriage. I think it's dumb to tell two people in love they can't get married.

But I must be missing something in this story. It just sounds to me like the owner of Chik Fil A believes in superstitions (religion) and is a bit bigoted in his views (probably reflective of the majority of sexually repressed people in the U.S.)

But I'm not seeing where he or his company have ever done anything "anti-gay". What am I missing here?

It appears to me that the religious nuts and leftists nuts are both trying to make something out of nothing.

Among the many groups to receive donations through Chick-fil-A's WinShape Foundation, which was created by Chick-fil-A founder and chairman S. Truett Cathy in 1984, were the Marriage & Family Foundation ($1,188,380), Exodus International ($1,000) and the Family Research Council (also $1,000), Equality Matters reported.

Go look at those groups sites.

Didn't see one for "marriage and family foundation"

I looked at the "Exodus" one. Didn't really see anything out of the ordinary there either.
I kept looking for something "extreme"...but nothing there that isn't being preached in a million churches every Sunday.

What exactly is all the controversy about? Again...I'm thinking that we have two factions who are trying to gain publicity for themselves over a whole lot of nothing.

Isn't that what all the Baptist preachers preaching fire and brimstone spout during their sermons every Sunday?

That's the part I just don't get. This seems to be nothing much more than a guy who believes in stupid shit (religion).

Last I checked...most people in the USA believe that crazy shit too.

Where's the controversy?

I could pretty much guarantee you that this Sunday in every fundamentalist church in America the subject is going to be Chik-Fil-A and the "evil" of homosexuality.

Tens of millions of Americans will sit in those pews and nod their heads in agreement. Including the owner of Chik-Fil-A

Where is the big controversy here? I still just don't see it.

I personally think religion is right up there with believing in Santa Claus and the tooth fairy. I also think that if two dudes love each other and want to get married...who cares? It's not hurting anybody.

But I don't see where the guy that owns Chik-Fil-A doesn't have the right to have his misguided beliefs and/or donate to anybody or anything he wants to.

As far as I know, his company has never discriminated against gay people in any way.
And his chicken sandwiches are tasty as hell (there aren't any out here in Vegas damn it)

I just think that the religious nutcases are going to be all fired up because the leftist nutcases tried to make a mountain out of a molehill. And now they are going to get that mountain.

Probably end up causing even more anti-gay sentiment amongst people.

I'm just gonna say that the same tired shit that they've been preaching in Baptist churches since I was a kid has absolutely no relation to the Holocaust or a chicken sandwich at Chik-Fil-A

I think that's the problem with our society. Everybody is so busy exaggerating stuff that it kinda numbs people when something really does happen.

The point of this post, Robbie, is when you stop giving a shit about those that stomp on the freedom of others it may just be your freedoms that get stomped on next.

Do you give a shit about freedom or not?

If so... fucking defend it.

I have no clue wtf this Chick fil a crap is about, nor do I care. I didn't see many people at our local one earlier...or anymore than normal I guess. I drove right by it. Something about gays is all I know.

Absolutely. As I already said over and over...I'm in total agreement that gay people shouldn't be discriminated against at all.

But what I'm trying to say is...I just don't see what the guy from Chik-Fil-A did other than (foolishly) run his mouth about his personal beliefs. That is HIS freedom.

I don't see where he has "stomped" on anybodies freedom has he?

If he has...then hell yeah he should be ostracized. But as far as I can see he is just another guy who is a homophobe and believes in dumb superstitions. Who am I to censor him? That would be taking away his freedom right?

Anyway...I'm just asking what did he do SPECIFICALLY that is so bad and that isn't done every Sunday in Church by tens of millions of idiots? They are free to believe whatever they like if it makes 'em feel good right?

He hasn't discriminated against gay people with his restaurant. So what has he done to cause all this insanity? Nothing.

It's right wing religious nuts and leftists nuts who are both pushing their own agendas. And I think that the people who are going to lose will be the innocent gay population out there.

It will fire up all the religious wackos and make it even harder for gays to get a fair shake.

Advocating against gay marriage is stomping all over the freedom of gays to do as they wish... namely get married.

As a gay that despises the President of Chik-fil-a I look at it like this. Nothing will change that company. For every person that boycotts another will go to counter that.

What I will bet though is that every company is looking into their practices and where their money is going so that they will never find themselves in a similar situation. That is a good thing.

Sorry to hear that you are completely blind.
I agree that STOPPING them from getting married (like so many states do) IS stomping all over their rights. I think it's unconstitutional to stop them from getting married.

I do NOT think that advocating against them is stomping on anybodies freedom. Just because he doesn't agree with you and I doesn't mean we can stomp on his freedom to say so.

I'm not "blind". But you seem to think there can only be one way of thinking. I recognize that he has the freedom to be a dumbass. You think we can just force him to shut up and force him to not advocate against gay marriage.

We can't.

And as I said, in my opinion this thing has turned into a backlash and gotten all the religious wackos all fired up.

That's usually the way things work.

IF the owner of Chik-Fil-A had actually said something outrageous it would be different. But he didn't. He basically has the same stance on marriage that Pres. Obama officially had up until a few months ago when he suddenly "evolved".

I think the guy from Chik-Fil-A is dead wrong. I also think that people trying to crucify him are dead wrong.
