Sponsor my Multiple Sclerosis Bike Ride?

Hi Guys

As those of you who follow my Facebooks (rants) will already know, I've recently taken up cycling as my new sport.

I was pretty thrilled to find some charity rides as well, and the MS ride especially, because one of my best friend's wife has been stricken with this disease and it is pretty debilitating. It's sad to see what it does to this wonderful woman in her 40's who is a great wife, and awesome mom, and up until lately, a very dedicated business woman. She is still able to do a lot, but she has had to move her business into the home, and make major cutbacks, and on many days she is simply too afflicted with the symptoms of MS to function normally. She has to have an assistant to come help her to do daily things that the rest of us take for granted.

And without research into this disease, she is likely to only get worse.

She is only one of over 400,000 people in the United States with this disease. I have to admit that I did not know much about it, until my friend's wife was stricken with it. Now I've really learned a lot in a short time.

I have signed up to do two 30-mile rides for the MS Society on November 10th & 11th. This is the weekend of the Aviation Nation Airshow, which I will be skipping this year to instead do the MS bike ride. Those who know what an aviation nut that I am, will recognize that this is a pretty big sacrifice for me.

I got a new bike and have really been putting some miles on it, training to get in shape to do this ride (and others, as I find them). Here it is on the back of my truck:

And here are some of my MapMyRide stats, showing that I've actually been training. The numers will continue to climb daily. I will be in northern california this coming week to train for longer rides. Thats how serious I am about it.

I am asking that if anyone is interested in making a tax deductible donation, in any amount that you want even if just $1, please go to the MS Society Contribution Page and make a contribution. The money goes straight to the MS Society, it does not go to me. What I do to earn your contribution is riding my bike 60 miles or even longer in November. Longer, if I can go longer at the time. I'm dedicated to this.

I'd also like to ask any cyclists here in the Las Vegas area, if you are interested, please join my team and come out and ride with me for a worthy cause. You can sign up from the donation page. Would love to see a bunch of team members on the ride with me.

Thank you

My sister has MS. And owns a business etc, sounds like you were describing her. She's been getting a lot worse. Now her hands are numb all the time and she constantly drops things. She can't even pick up her kids, its really frustrating and sad.

I have a company that sells exercise bikes for the disabled. I use one myself on a daily basis. It works both passive and active. I am at the passive stage, but for anyone that still has activity left, they really are great because it helps maintain muscle and flexibility that they would otherwise lose from not moving around because it's too difficult.

Good luck on your bike ride, I really believe that it's very important for anyone with a disability to keep physically active. Hopefully your ride helps create awareness and encourages people to remain active in any way possible.

I went and got a cortizone injection yesterday, I cant get them often but when I do, they really help out for 2 - 3 months. Biggest problem these days is with my ankle and how stubborn I am about wearing my brace in the summertime because I dont like people seeing it and asking questions. Running anywhere, due to the knee injury is out of the question. Hiking and walking on uneven ground, due to the ankle, is out of the question. But I can ride my bike and I really like it. I decided not to be that guy that dies from a heart attack or stroke, at least not because of a poor diet and being inactive when there was still things left that I could do.

No idea who you are, or what MS really is, but as someone who has suffered through a spine injury and knows what pain and lifestyle adjustments are all about, I'm on board. Good luck and a safe journey on your ride!

I wonder if you could use Fiverr for achieving your goal. I've been active there offering content writing services and I see lots of people offering a whole host of advertising opportunities.

For instance, for a Fiverr, you could write a company's name on your shirt or shorts (wear pants, more space ). Buy all white! You could probably reach your goal easily, the community seems to eat that sort of stuff up. Be sure to make a video describing what you'll do, they love video ads.

Just a thought.

We will donate; but have to admit was slightly concerned as you are getting the cortisone. This is not going to cause you further damage?

A friend of mine's Mother was wheelchair bound and eventually died from this, tough disease with a sad ending. Good luck in your fund raising efforts.

No, it just makes it easier for me to walk. It wears off after a while, but even my orthopedic surgeon said he rides his bike 100 miles a week and this is not going to cause any harm at all because its low impact. Riding my bike is painless for my ankle and knee.

Thank man, but its not a race. Just a non-competitive charity ride.

I've put all those miles on in my neighborhood. I'm sick of my neighborhood now lol.

Going to Northern California for a few days on sunday.

Got some new Bontrager carbon fiber wheels today, and an Ultrega cassette. Amazing what a difference it makes.

Signed up for Bike The Coast in November as well.
