Google News - Punishing Pirate Sites

Will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Quote:
Google constantly tweaks how its search engine delivers results to people, but it's rolling out a major new change next week: it'll start generally downranking sites that receive a high volume of copyright infringement notices from copyright holders. Google says the move is designed to "help users find legitimate, quality sources of content more easily" ? meaning that it's trying to direct people who search for movies, TV shows, and music to sites like Hulu and Spotify, not torrent sites or data lockers like the infamous MegaUpload.

Oh and BTW... If they DO do this, it's not because they give a flying fuck about the copyright holders. It's because THEY will be hassled with a lot fewer DMCA requests.

Google is evil.

Whatever their reason is for doing this, the result is still very good for copyright owners...

YouTube is no different than any other tube site hiding behind DMCA. So calling some of those tubes "pirates", while owning & operating the world's biggest illegal tube, makes for pretty fucking huge rocks being thrown in a small glass house.

Only if it's implemented and results in a considerable loss of traffic for the big tubes, torrent sites and file lockers.

It's about time. I'm very skeptical that they will actually apply it to porn. I can see them applying it to content related to the MPAA and RIAA but then thumbing their noses at the adult industry.

IF this does actually happen and they apply it to us we would all be very smart to start organizing campaigns to help speed along the DMCA requests and to maximize them in order to get these sites off the first page ASAP. We will all make a lot more money once these sites get buried on page 50.

Bury Google in valid DMCAs for them. Make it a joint operation between hudreds or thousands of content owners. That might do the trick.

You could argue the same thing about file lockers, forums, porn tube sites and just about any other site that allows user content to be posted and earn money from it, They are not run by pirates, Pirates just use them as a tool

Many sites are set up to facilitate piracy. Youtube is not one of them. Which is obvious to anyone who doesn't have an axe to grind. Perhaps some people just don't like Youtube's negative policy towards people using it for marketing and strategy.

I agree. They have a repeat infringer policy which is actually enforced. After three strikes they will either suspend or delete your account and all videos you upload. I've seen many legal videos deleted because the account holder uploaded a bunch of other copyrighted material and so had ALL their videos removed. Youtube does not play around. If the tubes in our industry did as Youtube does it would make a big difference in our industry as far as piracy.

Youtube doesn't want pirated shit on their site, where as tube sites thrive off of it, and they know it. 98% of shit on tube sites was uplaoded by the owner or his/her employees under fake accounts in order to fill it with content.

Comparing YouTube to YouPorn, Tube8 or the like is just ridiculous and naive.

It simply is not possible for any thread on GFY to ever actually stay on subject. No matter how important something may be for our industry it always comes back to trolling and name calling. It's like a kindergarten around here. lol

If the mthrfckrs "want to help users find legitimate, quality sources of content more easily", then why did they stop sending my legitimate site the traffic I had??? I strongly depend on my affiliates and their traffic so fuck google... but it was good to gradually see more traffic coming from the SE after years... Since last week some good searchterms that started to give me some nice traffic all off a sudden put tubes and a lot of non-relevant garbage content on the first pages...

Google is like a whining adulterous whore you can`t rely on... and for me that means:
put the bitch on the street and don`t give her the atention that she doesn`t deserve....

Pretty much sums it up lol, anyways I hope this new change helps out...but I'll believe it when I see it happen.

It sucks seeing full length/pirate tubes at the top of the search results but it's just something everyone has to live with...curious to see if some of my stuff ranks a little higher without full-length tubes dominating.

I will gladly donate a few hours everyday to send dmca notices to google for any content producer.

This should help sinking pirate sites in SERPs.

So just reply here if you want my help and i will do it.

Google is evil.
how do you come to that conclusion

they are giving a monetary intensive to send them MORE DMCA requests.

You made sense for once. I think you meant to say incentive though.

The differences between youtube and porn tubes are:

1) youtube is not paying people to find and steal videos and upload them.
2) youtube does not play DMCA games. they remove it, not juggle it.

But in terms of DMCA, there is no difference. Both host content they don't own.

Guys decide what's the main thread about this?

Ok so most reports include froytal (I think is manwin), RK netmedi (nastydollars), bangbros, so lots adult stuff:
http://www.google.com/transparencyre.../?r=last-month

Biggest reported sites are torrent ones, followed by file lockers:
http://www.google.com/transparencyre...s/?r=last-year

I browsed a few next pages in list, found forumophilia after 100th, browser more until 400th with only 5000 urls submitted and no one tube really, I would say tubes are not reported really, only the torrent and file lockers are there and may get a penalty.

Q: What if google does it for real and strongly changes results?

A: Google will lose traffic! And people will migrate to use alternative search engines, ones specialized in torrents or otherwise pirated content, as a starting page.

In fact, google is today the best pirate content search engine. Is enough to write words "torrent" + "name of movie" and google will give all the direct and real links for utorrent to get the files, ranked correctly. This is now better than pirate search engines because does not have fake links and popup adverts, so people use google.

And so if those million's of people using google to find pirate stuff will NO more find it in first page, they will switch to search of bing, yahoo or specific warez search engines, simply, making a fortune of these search engines.

I don't care about terms like "teen porn torrents" or "milf torrent". I care more about about a bunch of pirate sites showing up in terms like "porn", "free porn", and "teen porn". Even for tubes it would be nice if the legal tubes would start getting more traffic for terms like "teen tube" after some of the bad guys are knocked down in the results after getting hit with a lot of valid DMCA requests.

I've already made a squillion more in money since they announced this. It is clearly the answer to all problems and I fully expect to see no complaints from anyone about anything after next week.

This sounds like a great change for the adult industry, but it gets me wondering - how will they suitably scale penalties? Will a 100k/day site with 100 valid DMCA takedowns be penalised the same as a 10m/day site also with 100 takedowns?
