So, what do the GFY Republicans, Libertarians and Independents think about Ryan?

Without knowing much about Ryan, he seems like McCain's Palin. Brought on to give some personality to the ticket.

Are you Republicans happy with the choice? Did Romney's selection sway you to vote Republican? Did it push you away?

well, he's not libertarian at all.

as the medicare killer, and koch favorite, he's an interesting choice. at least there is no pretense of compassionate conservatism this time, and that's refreshing.

frankly, it looks like an odd choice to me. did romney really need to appeal to the billionaires and the republican base so much? why? was the base faltering?

romneys big chance is if the economy falters and gas prices spike. the republicans have to try to crash the economy in the next few months. which is still possible.

I said ryan was an odd choice - in my opinion, romney was an even odder choice. something went wrong in the republican process, when it resulted in romney as the nominee.

but, what's done is done.

Ryan was the driving force behind attempting to get Bush to privatize social security in 2005, shortly thereafter the market crashed and the economy was thrown into a deep recession. If he would have been successful this country and most likely the world would be in the worse depression its ever seen.

I was going to vote for the libertarian candidate before Ryan was picked and still will.

To me Romney only had a very slight chance of winning the election before and now Ryan reduces that chance even more.

Romney didn't really need someone who will fire up the base of the party. The base hates Obama and will likely vote for anyone who is not him. Ryan's big problem is his stance on Medicare. Obama is now going to use that to scare the shit out of seniors in Florida. If Romney doesn't win Florida he has an almost zero chance of winning the election.

Paul Ryan is a good man with serious plans for dealing with this country's problems for people who are willing to face the truth. The truth is that America can't continue going into debt a trillion dollars a year. Reasonable people realize that serious spending cuts have to happen and changes have to be made to entitlement programs including social security and medicare if they are going to survive. The Democrats will claim that all we have to do is to "tax the rich", but the truth is that if you take every penny from every person is this country that they have over $250K, (not just income, but everything they own) it would only fund our deficit spending for about 5 months. What are you gonna do then Democrats? You cannot deal with this country's debt problems without serious spending cuts .If you are willing to face the hard facts about the trouble that we are in and what is going to have to be done to prevent America from becoming Greece in just a few short years, then you had better be willing to vote for someone the balls to suggest real reforms! For the record, I am not rich, I am a 50 year old middle class working man who will be affected by the changes to Medicare and Social Security that I know will have to happen.

The Tea Party constituency is obese and getting fatter. The obesity rate among righties is 85%. Do you reactionaries have some kind of eating disorder, or don't you know what food is good for you? How do you expect to solve overspending when you can't even solve your own overeating?

The problem with the Ryan plan is that it really doesn't cut much from the defense budget. We could cut out defense budge in half and still spend more than the next five countries combined.

While I agree that the nation needs some serious budget cuts, to me any plan that doesn't include a cut in military spending is not a serious, legitimate plan.

When people learn and realize that people go into Politics to get paid, then and only then will things change.

Politicians should NOT get paid.

A TARP voting, Medicare ending Republican? Florida GOP supporters will sit on their asses in November thereby handing the election to Obama.

Ayn Rand would bitch slap that punk then blow smoke in his face

He has spent his entire life on the public payroll, he has voted for every spending bill that came around including TARP, the GM Bailout, the financial bailouts, he has voted to extend the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq he voted to make the patriot act permanent and he voted to allow the government to spy on citizens without a warrant...to name a few.

don't let anyone paint this piece of shit as a Libertarian he is just slightly left of Attila the Hun

It is a damn shame that Obama and Romney are the best this country can do. we deserve the government we get I suppose.

His budget robs from the middle class and gives it to the very rich. Every non-partisan analysis i've seen agrees on this.

Here's what David Stockman - Reagan's budget director - had to say about Ryan's "budget" in yesterday's New York Times: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/08/14/op...dget-plan.html

Titled "Paul Ryans Fairy Tale Budget Plan", Stockman concludes with "In short, Mr. Ryan?s plan is devoid of credible math or hard policy choices. And it couldn?t pass even if Republicans were to take the presidency and both houses of Congress. Mr. Romney and Mr. Ryan have no plan to take on Wall Street, the Fed, the military-industrial complex, social insurance or the nation?s fiscal calamity and no plan to revive capitalist prosperity ? just empty sermons."

Ryan is not a libertarian or economic conservative. He's just another corporate shill.

The whole thing was a sham. I could sit here and dig up links to many eyewitness accounts (including video) of shenanigans and election fraud at major Republican caucuses around the country...but what's the point? Nobody will believe it, and nobody cares. As you said, what's done is done.

Obamney 2012. A win-win for America.

No. If he was "left", his big tax giveaways would be to people who work for a living, not ones who sit by the pool waiting for the dividend check to arrive.

Ryan gives big tax breaks to the ones who need it the least.

It's true that the Ryan budget doesn't cut the military - Repiglicans never do. But it also keeps shoveling money at Thurston and Lovey - ANOTHER thing America can no longer afford and the GOP will never let go of.

Don't believe these motherfucker Rethugs about wanting a balanced budget or reducing the debt - THEY'RE THE ONES THAT SENT THE DEBT SKYROCKETING! They care about cutting taxes on the top - and eliminating regulations. That's IT.

Cut the big, juicy Bush tax giveaways to the Romney's and their friends. There's a place to start - they'll be able to get by somehow. Maybe a few less dancing horses?

Skip the next needless invasion and occupation of a foreign nation - that'll help as well.

Cancel those taxpayer subsidies to the oil companies, too, while we're cutting shit.

Do all that shit and see if it reduces the debt.

Bad selection from a rather poor pool of options

They'll do everything they can. Those maggots put party before country every time. If they have to keep Americans unemployed to make the President look bad, they have NO problem doing it. Fucking sociopaths.

Ryan has been in congress for 13 years now.

In that time he's managed to pass exactly TWO bills.

One pertained to something about arrows (as in bows and arrows), and the other was the renaming of a post office.

Awesome pick!
