Proper way would have been to send a mailer to all his customers letting him know what's the deal.
(ie. we still having some kind of script support, can still login and download the scripts we paid for, etc etc)

At least with the tubex script there is still a large use based community for support on the product, plus notice that he was closing shop (and a sweet discount on future licenses). With my multiple TEVs licenses... not so much
