as a youtube phenomenon it's fun for sure - but there would be great reward and little risk in faking videos in order to particpate in teh phenomenon.

a social media equivalent of crop circles.

what you need are multiple recordings of the same sound taken at different but geologically close locations, with different provenances so faking is unlikely. Then you would have something that can be studied. These standalone videos don't give one a lot of hard data to work with.

the fact that many of these vids have theological overtones or connections makes faking more likely. Amd some of the vids were clearly suspicious.

as a youtube phenom it's worth studying just for the lulz, for sure.

none of the science sources I checked have anything on it - which means basically that no scientifically sound recordings have been taken.

bottom line - a youtube phenom is not proof of anything - its not impossible that sounds are occuring, but you need data collection with better provenance to be sure its not a hoax.

Geezuz people will believe ANYTHING.

Anyone who has seen STEVEN SPEILBERGS WAR OF THE WORLDS will instantly recognize that sound.

Here's some other tidbits:

Anyone claiming anything crazy from these videos is an automatic failure. It is virtually impossible to determine anything from these recordings because:

- The mics used are shit quality.
- The sampling rate is too low and therefore prone to artifacts
- There are not enough mics covering the event so you could not determine the direction of the sound. You could take a decent guess with stereo but only if the camera (and mics) weren't moving around so much.
- Bozos who add dramatic music to their videos lose all credibility with me. The event should be dramatic enough without embellishments.

A sound you cannot identify in a place you do not expect to hear it does not mean it's anything fantastic. Like a UFO, it's just unidentified. Be critical in your thinking and you'll probably figure out what the sound is.

Seriously, no one has noticed the bird chirp at the exact same time from the exact same type of bird from videos supposedly from all over the world??? What are the odds that the same birds will chirp at the same position in the recording heard all over the world in different locations?? That's one hell of a bird call.

I've seen a video where one of the guys who did a video like this in Chicago admitted to it being a fake and showed how he did it using multiple audio streams. I can't say whether they are all fakes or not. But they probably are because for the ones in heavily populated areas if there were sounds like that coming from the sky you would have hundreds or thousands of people twittering about it and the media coverage would be tremendous. Just a handful of people hearing something like this in a city of millions makes it a likely fake.
