I got an email with an apology saying my credit card or other personal details were not compromised.

I wrote them a big angry complaint e-mail too and told them some sort of compensation was in order for their massive fail. Their response was that they are going to "reach out" to affected customers in the next few days in regards to this situation so I hope they have something incredible to say if they want to avoid a huge angry shitstorm of customers

Anyways, the biggest issue with using a domain registrar for hosting, in addition to the risk of putting all one's eggs in the same basket, is the hosting is usually outsourced to 3rd parties, and isn't the primary focus. Lastly, GoDaddy despite the most recent problems, for low-budget shared hosting, seems to have a decent track record. Most shared hosts have several hours or more of downtime per year ... it's just that few ever hear about it, since many are small, lesser known companies.
