What's a good tablet?

Looking for a good tablet for basic work stuff.

Spreadsheets, email, wifi, remote desktop, etc.

Just saw a commercial for the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 which looks pretty slick. Surely doesn't need to be a power house either as it's only going to be used occasionally and for basic tasks.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

If you just want to do those basic things go on ebay and get a factory refurbed motorola xoom for $200. After you turn it on it will update to ice cream sandwich.

Not big on refurbs, but I'll take a look. I'm digging ICS on my Evo3d.

We've got a couple of HP Touchpads running Android 4. You can find these on Craigslist for under $200.

Same with the Nook Tablet and Nook Color (these my 3 and 4 year old make use of). We've also got the new Nexus 7, which is quite nice. Definitely worth the $200 or so price tag on all three.

You'd have to go through four refurbs before paying the same as new. For what you're doing you don't need the newest thing on the market and would be blowing money.

Played with those a little, IMHO tablets are useless for work.

Any cheap netbook can be more useful when you actually need to do something about the work.

Crapple just invented new market for their profits and people think its useful because its by crapple. And now when market is invented other companies follow the trend.
Definitely netbook over a tables for that kind of work.

iPad easily replaces laptop for people who don't do much on computer, and you can take it pretty much anywhere. Take a look at sales numbers, looks like many find it useful

And calling it "crapple" while doing work on computer is not smart. Show some respect to people who played a big role in making that possible.

If you'd like a little more portability, the smaller 7 inch tablets are more convenient, though you do give up some of that screen real estate.

If you plan on doing anything more than surfing the web or playing games, get the Microsoft Surface, nothing else compares to it.

Exactly, what crockmint said, its way inferior to netbooks and people think that they need them just because its "invented" by apple.

If you are planning on actually working on a tablet then go for IPad. If you are just going to watch Netflix or check stats then Nexus 7.

I have Ipad3, Samsung 10.1 and the Nexus 7 and this is pretty much how it ended up. In general tho I would say you shouldn't expect to be able to do anything complicated easily on any tablet.

I have an iPad and it pretty much sucks for output i.e. spreadsheets or writing. I love it for input i.e. looking at portfolios or video chat. I need keys which travel though, so your results may vary.

I'm still having a hard time getting used to teamviewer with a touch interface ...

But I have to agree 100% .... once you have used an iPad, no other tablet quite measures up ...

If you have never used an iPad for any length of time, pretty much any tablet capable of running android 4.0 should be fine!
