2400 Millionaires received unemployment checks in 2009

Crazy. In 2009, the federal government sent 2400 people living in households that made over a million that year unemployment checks. I thought this was a joke then I read the full article. http://www.washingtonpost.com/busine...6b2_story.html

they need to use that money to hire people that can keep an eyes on the recipients.
Have them check-in at an Unemployment Office every Month and ask proofs that they are actively looking for a job.

It's too fucking easy for everybody to just File, work under the table and not do shit for a year. Collecting checks every month while driving da Benz... i have seen it a lot

If poor people can get free phones, why can't millionaires get unemployment checks?

Why is it crazy? Unemployment is insurance you paid into. It's not like it's free money.

well it is called unemployment insurance. Their employers contributed to the insurance and in some states they did too as employees

Everyone deserves the unemployment they have earned. Same as Social Security. When people talk about rich people getting Social Security, as if they shouldn't, it always makes me shake my head.

Unemployment and Social Security are paid into systems. The problem happens when people start getting more than they have earned.

At least most of the millionaires have paid into the system unlike the 3rd and 4th generation welfare mommas who just take. If anyone is entitled to it, it's them.

For some reason I do believe there is a houshold income cap though. I think I read that some place to prevent things like this.

The article said it was also spouses, and dependants.

But if you pay in, then why should you not be able to collect.

Not that I am defending this, but it I can see how this happens. If you have a million bucks in the bank and loose your job, you still qualify for unemployment. We need to make a law that if you have a certain amount of money in the bank you no longer qualify for unemployment.

My parents did something similar really. My father died when I was nine months old and both my mother and I collected social security. My mother on my behalf until I was eighteeen, and my mother collected until she re-married. In fact, they put off their marriage a few years so they could continue collecting the money.

But the question is do they still have to pay into the system when they are working? Its like SS, I think most wealthy would chose to opt out if they could but then the system would suffer without their support.
