They are simply trying to figure out what is is. The unknown origin part was added by the idiot to make it look more exciting. Amazing how right away he implies some kind of government cover up. They found a big eye and are gonna figure out what it is. That's it.

They aren't going to say "this is a whales eye!" before stating exactly what it is. They would need to study it and determine for sure. It might not even be a whale. It's not that big. It could be a squid, a shark, some kind of weird fish, who knows.

I get really tired of people in the media who use the word "unknown" when they aren't sure of something yet. That's pretty irresponsible in this day and age not just start speculating that it could be aliens, or monsters. Maybe even from an occult practice by powerful and rich people that know Hef.

"Marine biologists" don't know? Or two people that were asked didn't know... because as anyone with a fucking brain and any intelligence at all knows, that in the absence of obvious identifying traits, there are many possibilities and identifying it conclusively BY A SCIENTIST would require testing. If I ask "what is this" and there are 50 possibilities and no unique, identifying traits, obviously no one is going to say "its a ...".
