Link trading and current SEO thinking...

What's the real 'links' scoop today? I remember when indeed, any and every link was a positive move, then they had to be reciprocal links, then they had to be three-way links...what is the current best practice, presuming they are quality links?

I still prefer the a-b-c method.

currently google appears to frown on iframe ads from most of the major porn companies.

Europeans Billing Europe!

Probably a stupid SEO follow-up question, but is there a strategy that works for getting one-way incoming links from authority sites? I would think you'd have to have an established site with PR of what for someone to consider doing you that service? And how do you ask?

Thanks

linking from RELEVANT sites is key and making sure you dont have tons of links out. Google looks for links from websites, social networks and forums/blogs to take into consideration

Going to try this out.

I had a big drop in se traffic the next day on a site after i updated it with ads and few other things. Added new rotating iframes ad code, I thought it could have been new javascript code.

It's all about getting those (apparent) one way links. A-B-C linking is pretty good. You want to avoid placing outgoing links on your moneysite.

Mainly what Google seems to be interested in right now is link diversity and partial match anchor text. There's also been some correlation with nofollow links and rankings, which is interesting. In addition to this, social media seems to correlate very strongly with ranking (moreso than links, according to some data,) i.e., Facebook shares and Twitter tweets.

sometimes a discussion about your site on an authority site is all you need.

Funny because all of the major tubes use porn iframes and dominate the results with them.

I have hundreds of blogs with iframes and whatnot, none of those have ever been removed from SERPS and are getting +80% of their traffic from Goggle (at least).

You must've done something else or used an iframe from a really bad site.

they balance out the iframes with thousand of links posted in forums and such by users looking for a free lunch. no one thing does it alone.

Why are you promoting the .net over the .com?
