Computer gurus of GFY: Please help (ASUS Mobo HDMI Audio)
Asus P8Z68-M PRO w/ Intel I5-2500k
Using the HD3000 graphics (no separate video or audio card) Well it's about to drive me fucking insane. I've done everything I can think of.. Enabled and set the onboard sound to hdmi in the bios, tried different drivers, etc. Of course, I have changed the default audio out and all of that. I even tried disabling everything but the hdmi audio device. The computer sees two audio devices which say "HDMI Digital Jack" in their properties.. The television (a Vizio) as "E260MV" and Digital Audio (HDMI) Audio works fine through the regular outputs I'm going to pull out the hair from my head over this.. and have been everywhere looking for a fix. You, I know some of you are pretty amazing. So please let me know if you've got any ideas ![]() ![]() |

Control Panel > Sound
Make sure your playback device (HDMI Output) is enabled. On my mobo, it was just plug and play. Same with my wife's laptop. As soon as I plugin the HDMI cable on her laptop, it mirrors the screen and enables audio output through my receiver from the TV.

I can help you by saying I've stopped using ASUS boards a couple of years ago, and switched to Biostar. Stop using Asus boards, because half the features don't work properly.
I also had audio issues, like laggy sound after watching too many Youtube videos -- and I couldn't boot my computer if a DVD drive was attached -- and a list of other quirks that came up at the worst time.

I've always liked Asus boards but from what I've read, you're right. They're getting bad. I thought this would be a good solid board with the z68 chipset and solid caps. And it has, but if shit doesn't work, fuck it.
Biostar I always thought was like pcchips in terms of quality.. are they pretty good, now? What about ASrock? |

My newest build is an Asus + Corsair build and I haven't had any problems. If your sound is working through the analog jacks then they should be functioning fine through hdmi. I'm assuming you've already troubleshooted any possibility that the problem is from your tv?

Most likely, your TV is not HDCP compliant.

i dont know if it will work for you but this seems to work for me
1. plug in ur HDMI cable 2. Put ur tv on the HDMI input channel 3. unplug ur HDMI cable 4. plug it back in i got a LG tv, and it wont let me select the HDMI channel without having a HDMI input signal active, and my soundboard wont switch to HDMI sound because the tv is not connected to the HDMI port. its really stupid, but the way described up here works for me, and i can only hope you will get the same result. -edit- WOA this thread is ancient

Yes, first confirm that the problem is not with your TV.
