:stop School Shooter Attended College Classes as 16-Year-Old

Lanza, 20, forced his way into Sandy Hook on Friday morning and killed 20 children and six adults before committing suicide. He drove to the school after shooting his mother in the face at their home.

The weapons that police recovered from the scene included a Glock 9-mm handgun, a Sig Sauer 9-mm handgun and a Bushmaster rifle. Police also found .223 shell casings. Lanza was wearing a bullet-proof vest.

The shooter's mother, 52-year-old Nancy Lanza, had five weapons registered to her, including a Glock, a Sig Sauer, and a Bushmaster rifle.

Police said the Glock, the Sig Sauer and the Bushmaster at the school appeared to be registered to a family member. Authorities are currently completing their checks to see which weapons were used in the slayings, to whom they were registered and how they were obtained.

Lanza, who was described by neighbors and former classmates as being very bright, took six classes at Western Connecticut State University in 2008 and 2009, beginning when he was just 16, and had a grade point average of 3.26.

According to Paul Steinmetz, Director of University of Relations at Western Connecticut State University in Danbury, Lanza started at the school in the summer of 2008, took a couple classes that fall and then in the spring and summer of 2009.
Adam Lanza, the 20-year-old who killed 20 children and six adults in a rampage at a Connecticut elementary school, and his mother both spent time at an area gun range, ABC News has learned.

A Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives spokesperson told ABC News investigators have determined Lanza did visit a gun range, but they have not determined whether he shot there.

Investigators have also learned his mother, Nancy Lanza, visited a gun range on multiple occasions, but they have not determined whether her son was with her during those visits, the spokesperson said.

ATF agents have been canvassing area gun ranges and gun dealers to learn whether Adam Lanza had been a customer or a visitor.

Law enforcement sources tell ABC News that reports that the shooter recently attempted to purchase a gun at a local sporting goods store have not been substantiated at this time.

Adam Lanza used a Bushmaster .223 semi-automatic rifle at close range to kill children and adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut on Friday.

Two handguns were also found at the scene, but law enforcement officials described the Bushmaster as the primary weapon. A fourth weapon was found nearby. The weapons discovered at the school apparently belonged to a family member, possibly his mother, according to authorities.

A 16-year-old attending classes is rare, not unique, Steinmetz said.

He said that some high school students sign up for classes at the college if they are particularly good in some subject. He said the school has probably a few 16-year-olds every semester.

Lanza took courses in computer science, such as website design, the computer language called BASIC, and data modeling, as well as in philosophy, American history and economics.

Steinmetz said he had not heard from anybody on the staff who has any knowledge of Lanza at all, but it would be unusual for a professor to remember a student in a class from four years ago.

He said that in the classes Lanza took there would likely be 20 to 25 students.

Crazed killer Adam Lanza was a ?ticking time bomb? who suffered from Asperger?s syndrome and was painfully shy and awkward, former classmates said yesterday.

Last night, a troubling portrait began to emerge of the ?Goth? loner, who dressed all in black and was obsessed with video games.

Others say Lanza used to be a mild-mannered student in high school, making the honor roll, and living with his mother, Nancy Lanza, who in turn loved playing dice games and decorating their upscale home for the holidays.

The 20-year-old ? who shot dead 27 people in America?s worst-ever school killing ? began his rampage by shooting his mother in the face at the family?s $1.6 million home in Newtown, Connecticut, dubbed America?s ?safest town?.

He then then took three of her guns and drove her black Honda Civic to Sandy Hook Elementary School around 9.30am, where he killed 20 young children and six adults before shooting himself in the head.

Lanza used two semi-automatic pistols, a Glock and Sig Sauer, and reportedly wiped out an entire classroom of young children, then shot several in a second class before taking his own life.

While an official has said that the 20-year-old gunman in the Connecticut school shooting had Asperger's syndrome, experts say there is no connection between the disorder and violence.

Asperger's is a mild form of autism often characterized by social awkwardness.

"There really is no clear association between Asperger's and violent behavior," said psychologist Elizabeth Laugeson, an assistant clinical professor at the University of California, Los Angeles.

Witnesses say Lanza was going from room to room shooting people, after first killing the principal Dawn Hochsprung and the school psychologist Mary Sherlach execution-style when they confronted him in the hallway.

Former classmate Olivia DeVivo said she remembered Lanza talking about ?blowing things up?, but added: ?I put that down to the usual talk of boys. I think he went so unnoticed people didn?t stop to think, ?There?s something going on here ? maybe he needs some kind of help??

?No one is surprised. He always seemed like he was someone who was capable of that because he didn?t really connect with our high school, with our town.?

Another former school friend, Jamie Crespo, 19, said: ?He used to hang with the freaks, guys who dressed in trench coats.?

Other students remember him walking through school dressed in black, carrying a black briefcase.

Newtown High School's 2010 class president Ben Federman is like the rest of his classmates - he can barely remember Adam Lanza.

Mr Federman, who was home from attending college at Vanderbilt University, told MailOnline that he had heard from many graduates from the class of 2010 and none of them can think of a single friend Lanza had.

'The only time I ever saw him was in the hallway and he never seemed to engage anyone. He was just focused on walking from one class to another,' Mr Federman said.

His only memory of the 20--year-old Lanza was the bizarre way he dressed - always in button-down shirts that were too big for him. He also usually had pens in his shirt pocket and usually carried a black leather briefcase.

'You noticed that because it was different. He carried a briefcase and not a backpack,' Mr Federman said.

Lanza appears to have enjoyed a normal childhood, attending Sandy Hook Elementary and then Newtown High School, in the affluent town 60 miles from New York.

He graduated high school in 2010 and refused to pose for the traditional high school yearbook picture ? a rite of passage in America. Instead, a note on the page under his name states: ?Camera shy.?

In 2007, when he was a freshman, he was pictured along with ten of his classmates for a group photo of the 'Tech Club,' which 'allowed students to explore technology and promote events' on student TV.

In two yearbooks from his time in high school - he wasn't even listed in one and his name appeared under 'not pictured' in another.

Richard Novia, the school district's head of security until 2008, who also served as adviser for the school technology club, said Lanza clearly 'had some disabilities.

'If that boy would've burned himself, he would not have known it or felt it physically," Novia told The Associated Press in a phone interview. "It was my job to pay close attention to that.'

Mr Novia described Lanza as 'a very scared young boy, who was very nervous around people he could trust or he refused to speak with,' Novia said.

'Somewhere along in the last four years, there were significant changes that led to what has happened,' Novia said. 'I could never have foreseen him doing that.'

Yesterday reports claimed he had been diagnosed with Asperger?s syndrome, a form of autism where sufferers experience difficulties with communication and social skills, which can lead to isolation and emotional problems.

Neighbor Justin Germak, 17, said he knew Lanza ?had a condition?. ?You definitely noticed it. He was needy. He struggled to be social.?

'Everyone just assumed he was a smart kid and that?s why he didn?t like talking to people all the time,' Peter Lalli, 20, who graduated with Lanza in 2010, told the New York Daily News. 'He hung out with the smart crowd.'

Another former classmate said Adam has been 'a weird kid since we were five years old.'
Tim Dalton wrote on Twitter: 'As horrible as this was, I can't say I am surprised...'

Media tries so hard to make things more dramatic - attempting to create this fuckup as some kind of tormented genius. LOL a 3.26 average studying web design, American history etc - what it shows is he was an oddball, normal 16 year olds don't want to spend their summer taking courses at college. if he wasn't spoiled he would have been spending the summer working at McDonalds, or a golf course, or cutting lawns and such.

Notice it's not inner city poor kids who go on these shooting sprees?

Let's talk about that instead of the 2nd Amendment - let's talk about spoiled affluent kids and what kind of parenting they receive, what kind of professional counselling they are getting, what they're doing online, what they're watching, their medical history relating to psych drugs.

So basically, all of the students at the college he went to thought he was some kind of 'freak' because he didnt fit in with their social values or groups, a loner, a loser, one of the weird kids, and we wonder why he wen ton a shooting spree, sounds like the potential for there to have been some bullying going on... Just a hypothesis at this point in time however... Whether or not he was or wasn't bullied does not excuse what he did but, at the same time, bullying can turn kids to do stupid things as we've seen in the media over the past few years with the mass suicides...

Do you honestly feel that this forum is an appropriate place for these photos?

Do you think their families would appreciate you posting pics of their children here?

I don't.

Funny how different groups of people see the same person differently, or who he hung out with. One person called the group freaks, another called them the smart crowd

Looks like we need a ban on Dressing in Black and carrying black brief cases. Oh and Video Games!

The facts are all over the place with this story.

First, the rifle was found in the car. Then we find out the rifle was used in all the kills. Now it was the handguns.

Yeah I noticed that. And others said he didn't have any friends at all.

I think that indicates a personality disorder, rather than an autistic disorder, if he's seen so differently from different angles.

I noticed that too, this whole "witch hunt" mentality is just going to make things even rougher for kids that don't fit in socially and are at a higher level intellectually when 99.999999% of them would never hurt a fly

I noticed this quote from another thread, which probably deserves much more scrutiny than worrying about the goth clothes he wore, etc.:

Quote:
He's been on a slew of antipsychotic and mood-altering pharmaceuticals, ....
edit: noticed the quote was from a theoretical examination of the situation by an author, but the point remains the same, curious to hear the lifetime psychiatric drug history of this kid

a lot of anti psychotic meds can have side effects of the exact opposite intention of the drug but maybe if just one person tried to be his friend instead of just looking at him like a freak, this might never of happened.
