Its Toronto. So the most likely Scenario is that 2- 3 Starters get injured in the first month and they never recover.

i love how people are getting super excited over the blue jays

you need to chill

every year its the same thing they say they have an amazing team
then a few players go down with a couple of injuries
and some player doesnt pan out
and the next thing you know they miss the post season

it will be interesting to see how these new pitchers play

yeah...you get the sense that this is a tight team though. They hang out together, people like each other...they are really focused on winning right now, and management just spent to try and make it happen.

Also they dont seem to have the Edge curse

The Jays have not had a team like this since the early 90's

I would love MLB to do a More Nhl best of 3 until finals or even NFL type playoff . make the season a little shorter but make playoffs more exciting. by the time i am really into the playoffs they are over.

the only reason they don't is because the season itself is FAR too long and it would take the series into december.. heh Adding a few more teams keeps things interesting for mid level teams though, I don't know how fans dealt with 4 teams making the playoffs in the past.

They are deep and have the talent, but that doesn't mean they are guaranteed wins. If the can play well together and stay reasonably healthy they should do very well.

If I were a Jays fan I would be very happy. I am a Mariner fan so like srockhard at least I can now take solace in the fact that they are likely not the worst team in the division and who knows, if some of their young players take a step forward this season they could be an average team.

Large difference between this offseason and many in the past 10 or so years. Adding Reyes, JJ, Buerhle, Bonafacio and Dickey is a major improvement and would literally put almost any team into playoff contention.

The team looks great on paper. Barring some major injuries they should make the playoffs with a week AL East this year.

The Jays pitching staff has been injured so much because they were so young, Two guys right now are having Tommy Johns surgery

The thing I like about this team is that instead of having a rotation of prospects they have guys who have actually pitched in the majors. The Jays wanted to be the A's but have finally gone back to trying to be the Yanks, about fucking time

that's part of what makes the game so good, your team has just as much as a shot at it as some of the bigger spenders. Baltimore went far last year with less.

I definitely don't want to hear too much talk about the Jays winning the world series this year. I think they have the team to do it, but that is just setting everyone up for appointment's and a whole lot of I told you so's, also puts a ton of pressure on these guys who are just getting here and need to learn to work with the team, and to work with John Gibbons.

I think the Jays will have a great year, I think they will make the playoffs, but I am certainly not counting on them winning the world series!

have said that, Damn i am excited, I know my wife got me two Jays Jerseys for Christmas, cause I picked them out, Bautista Home Jersey, and a Lawrie Canada Day Jersey, (Red with CANADA instead of players name on the back). But I still went ahead and ordered a Dickey jersey, I will have his Jays Jersey before he does!

On paper this is the best team in the league.

to those saying they do this and still loose, no they don't, Alex Anthopolous' moves this winter will go down as on of the most successful off seasons of trades and acquisitions ever, even if they loose 100 games.

to those saying a few of these guys will go down and they will have no pitching, well they still have 5 other starters, 3 of whom won't make the roster (two of those still recovering from TJ). So even if Johnson, Burhle, and Dickey go down with injuries, they are no worse off pitching than last year, and have way better fielding / batting.

Lastly, Dickey won't go down with TJ problems, he is physically incapable of it, as he lacks the existence of a TJ ligament (Ulnal collateral ligament).

Very true. Look at Oakland. They are the reigning AL West champs and have the lowest payroll in baseball.

The thing I like about what the Mariner management is doing is that they fully committed to rebuilding from the ground up in a way like the Rays did. They are developing young players and piecing the team together that way. In theory this could mean that when those players develop the team can be good for a while instead of just one year.

Not trying to hate on Canada but what is new from last year that makes them better? Last time I can remember them winning was when Dave Winfield got all those awesome hits. I think they had my man Jack Morris too. Maybe they had a playoff season since but being in Florida I have not heard the buzz

For starters, Miami traded pretty much all of their star players to the Jays. They picked up some solid role players to go along with the stars they got from Miami and just got the NL Cy Young winner. ESPN is ranking them as the most improved team so far this offseason.

Guess you've not been paying attention to what the jays have been doing in the off season. They are not done yet!

by Florida do you mean somewhere is Russia?

you know Miami traded their 3 of their 4 best player to the Jays a month ago, then the Jays signed the All Star Game MVP (an National League Batting Champ from a year ago) then they traded for the national League Cy Young award winner, (the best pitcher in the national league) and he thought enough of their moves that he signed for 1) less than he was going to accept from his own team, the Mets, and 2) half as much as Zack Greinke who's numbers although excellent, were slightly less impressive. On top of that they have two of the best home run hitters in the league and 4 of the 10 fastest runners.

The Jays have picked up so much Talent in the last two months, that most people, even some in the Jays organization, don't realize that they picked up Macier Izturis a month ago, a solid any position infielder with a career 275 average with the Angels. No one even mentions that they picked him up.

Not just half as much. Grienke makes $147M over 6 years or $24.5 Million per year.

We have Dickey at $30 Million over 3 years. This is the reason we gave up a stud prospect for him. He is ridiculously cheap.

you put together a team from europe and have them play against an average major league team, see how that goes.

My question is why is it called word series if its America series. Strength of teams is not in question now. Self centered ignorance of Americans - thats the question.

It is something we American's do with our sports. It is the same reason that they call the NBA and NFL champions "World Champs."

I don't know why they do it, but they do.

that's an honest answer, and appreciated, but as a Canadian, I am ok with MLB and NFL calling them world champs, these are the premier players in the world, and in both those leagues it's mostly, or heavily US players as well (realistically as long as it is the best talent, and they are in this league, it doesn't matter where the players are from).
